Job Description

Title: Quality and Safety Manager

Reports To: President

Direct Reports: Quality Engineers, CMM Programmers, and Quality Technicians

Purpose and Scope: The Quality and Safety Manager will oversee the adherence to rigorous standards outlined in documented procedures across all aspects of the Quality Management System. Additionally, they will supervise the Inspection Lab for machined parts, ensuring compliance with safety protocols. They will also manage the implementation of Corrective Actions, both internally and with external suppliers.

Responsibilities:

Recruiting and Personnel Development:

  • Act as hiring manager in the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of all quality personnel
  • Manage and develop direct reporting staff as well as quality personnel
  • Evaluate staffing levels to ensure human resources are adequate and properly positioned to support current and future production requirements

Plan, develop, and implement strategy for quality management:

  • Act as the representative of Quality Engineering on new product development teams, facilitating smooth transitions of new designs into production
  • Manage the Cost of Non-Conformances (including Scrap/Warranty) to support the Company’s financial objectives
  • Engage in effective communication with customers and government quality representatives regarding quality issues
  • Cultivate positive and productive relationships with customers, based on data-driven insights and continual improvement
  • Conduct thorough contract reviews for customers/products, ensuring delivered products meet or exceed customer expectations
  • Establish and maintain a sustainable Quality Management System (QMS) aligned with ISO 9001/AS 9100 certifications by integrating customer/government quality clauses and requirements into internal procedures
  • Develop, prepare, and implement Quality Program Plans for new and existing customers and products
  • Serve as the primary liaison for various customers to resolve quality issues, ensure proper flow-down of quality requirements, and maintain positive communication channels to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Coordinate all aspects of the company's quality program, including development, administration, training support, and facilitating positive change throughout the organization
  • Oversee the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) to ensure product conformance and customer satisfaction
  • Conduct regular audits, identify non-conformities, and implement corrective actions to maintain quality standards
  • Participate in the establishment of strategic plans, policies, and procedures to meet or exceed internal and external customers' needs and expectations
  • Establish and maintain the highest standards of product quality and reliability
  • Support company-wide quality improvement efforts through organization and promotion
  • Lead Corrective and Preventive Actions, addressing customer complaints and concerns through timely investigations
  • Manage the GTC Supplier Management program, including scheduling supplier evaluations, addressing supplier quality issues, and maintaining the Approved Supplier List
  • Oversee the company's Inspection Lab, including the calibration system, workload prioritization, employee training, disciplinary actions, and performance evaluations
  • Act as the ITAR Compliance Manager, maintaining and updating the ITAR Compliance Manual and staying current with regulatory changes
  • Support the design and evaluation of quality process sampling systems, procedures, and statistical techniques to ensure controlled manufacturing processes and timely production of quality products
  • Hold authority for disposition of suspect material and issuance of nonconformance reports and corrective actions
  • Ensure completion of Receiving, In-Process, Sampling, and Final Inspection processes by allocating appropriate resources and staffing

Plan, develop, and implement strategy for safety management:

  • Lead company Safety Committee and organize effective processes to monitor and improve the safety program
  • Coordinate periodic cross-functional job safety analysis on new or changing equipment and processes
  • Investigate and log safety incidents, identify causes, and implement corrective actions with the Safety Committee
  • Develop and conduct trainings on a variety of topics to all levels of the organization related to safety programs, initiatives, and awareness

Plan, implement, and support continuous improvement:

  • Act as company Subject Matter Expert in Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) activities by developing and maintaining company-wide standards and driving improvements through effective project management
  • Lead internal and external CAR/RCCA initiatives and implementation with the support and buy in of other functional groups
  • Maintain safety and quality metric performance data and analyze trends, identify and build action plans to improve safety and quality initiatives

Operate within Company Parameters:

  • Communicate and liaise with other functional managers and executives so as to understand all necessary aspects and needs of operational development, and to ensure they are fully informed of quality objectives, purposes and achievements
  • Ensure quality activities and management of materials are executed in a manner consistent with good stewardship
  • Ensure activities meet with and integrate with organizational requirements for quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations, environmental policies and general duty of care
  • Execute all responsibilities according to lawful and ethical standards as established by company policies and procedures

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or 10 years' experience in Quality, Manufacturing, or Design Engineering
  • 5 years' leadership managing teams and Quality Management Systems
  • Proficient in Continuous Improvement methodologies
  • Thorough understanding of military and commercial Quality Assurance standards
  • Proficient in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Experience with APQP, PPAP, and PFMEA
  • Aerospace industry exposure or ISO9001/AS9100 certification
  • Skilled in Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA)
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities
  • Track record of driving continuous improvement
  • Experience in Aerospace and Medical industries, Lead Auditor training
  • Proficient in Lean manufacturing, ISO 13485, AS9100D, and ITAR compliance
