Girl Scouts of Northern California is Hiring a Senior Manager, Adult Learning Near San Jose, CA

The Senior Manager of Adult Learning will:

  • Design curriculum
    • Work closely with the Associate Director of Adult Learning, the Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer, and other key stakeholders to implement best practice instructional design and facilitation principles for training and adult learning across the Council
    • Develop high-quality programming and training content and associated resources for adults and girls to be delivered by you, staff, and volunteers in in-person and virtual formats.
  • Facilitate training
    • Support Council-wide training facilitation, including implementing trainings and adult learning for staff, volunteers, and girls in person, online, and in virtual formats.
    • Partner with the Training team to facilitate Council-wide training and to train staff trainers to deliver training as needed.
  • Manage gsLearn learning management system (LMS)
    • Lead creation, updating, and implementation of training curricula on gsLearn platform
    • Track data on gsLearn training participation, completion, and satisfaction metrics and present summary data to the leadership team
    • Manage training completion cross-certifications for trainings completed in-person, in gsLearn, and in other formats
  • Collaborate across departments
    • Work cross-departmentally with the Marketing and Communications team to manage the development of all print and digital training materials and all external communications related to training
    • Meet weekly with Associate Director of Adult Learning and schedule and attend meetings as needed with other teams and staff to keep training projects on track
  • Provide customer service support
    • Provide Tier 1 customer care for volunteers and staff related to gsLearn access and training completion
  • Other duties as assigned

Key Performance Indicators (these will be used to set annual performance evaluation goals with your manager):

  • Create and lead training courses for volunteers Council-wide as assigned by Associate Director, with satisfaction rates at least 80% on training surveys.
  • Contribute to improvements in volunteer satisfaction ratings about training.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in GSNorCal core values.

Skills required to be successful in this role, include, but are not limited to:

  • Strong attention to detail to support training and resource development, the gsLearn learning management system, and internal processes and workflows
  • Project management
  • organization, coordination, and collaboration with teams across the organization to develop trainings
  • defining purpose, objectives, and requirements
  • leading cycles of planning, implementation, review, and revision
  • Strategic focus on aligning and improving training and adult learning across the organization, including identifying gaps and needs and updating curriculum to meet needs
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills, both in-person and virtual
  • Adult training skills
  • Instructional design skills
  • Understanding of child development principles
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the educational needs of target audiences and training needs on various Girl Scout platforms and systems
  • Analytical approach to soliciting feedback from trainings and reflecting to make changes
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite applications 
  • Proficient in developer/authoring tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Articulate, etc.)
  • Comfort with learning and using various virtual platforms and online tools and applications
  • Proficient in Salesforce to support Tier 1 customer service and volunteer relations

Remote work and/or office expectations

  • This position is full-time exempt, 37.5 hours per week. 
  • Required to work in the assigned office (Alameda or San Jose) at least 2 days per week. 
  • There will be occasions when this position will be required to be at an off-sight location and will take place in the afternoon, evenings, and weekends.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four years related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in instructional design with an adult learning focus
  • A minimum of 2 years in working with communities in youth, family, and/or volunteer service organizations
  • Confident in the use of instructional design model(s) and processes for producing, deploying and measuring high-quality curriculum that achieves instructional objectives
  • Able to project plan and manage initiatives using organizational, time-management and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional communication and teamwork skills; Strong oral and written communication skills (in-person, virtually, telephonic, email, etc.); Strong listening and comprehension skills
  • Proficient in cloud-based applications such as Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, or Google Suite (Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.)
  • Able to work a consistent schedule in a hybrid work setting
  • Able to work a flexible schedule including pre-scheduled evenings and weekends
  • Able to attend pre-scheduled in-person activities and/or meetings across the assigned territory
  • Valid California Driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, proof of insurance
  • Able to pass Girl Scouts of Northern California’s background screening process (including fingerprinting, criminal education, social security and Department of Motor Vehicle verification)

  • A proven track record in working with diverse communities
  • Knowledge of Girl Scout mission and programs
  • Bilingual in Spanish, or other languages and cultural awareness. Staff who are proficient in reading/writing and speaking in another language and use their dual-language skills in their assigned job duties will be eligible for a stipend up to a maximum of $3,000 annually.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs (boxes, materials, equipment)
  • Possess physical endurance including prolonged standing, bending, stooping and stretching
