Gallatin County is Hiring an Animal Control Community Liaison Near Bozeman, MT

The Animal Control Community Liaison Officer is a non-sworn civilian position and a member of the Gallatin County Deputy Sheriff’s Association. The position falls under the general supervision of the Support Services Captain. The Animal Control Community Liaison Officer is responsible for performing support duties that assist the public with general questions and concerns; non-criminal community related response; responding to animal complaints; enforcing animal control laws; taking animals into custody as required and provides services and protection to the animals and people of Gallatin County under Montana Code Annotated; VIN inspections; abandoned vehicle management and parking concerns. This position does not supervise other County personnel. This position must have a working knowledge of the Gallatin County Dog Control Ordinance; animals (especially dogs and horses), animal behaviors and handling of animals; knowledge of abandoned vehicle policies and procedures; principles and procedures of record keeping and reporting and modern office practices, methods and computer equipment. Position must have the ability to be in close contact with all kinds of animals, including sick, injured and dangerous animals; prepare written reports; communicate effectively in person and in writing with the public, violators and co-workers; learn assigned tasks readily; adhere to prescribed routines; follow oral and written instructions; work well under stressful situations when dealing with the public and co-workers; establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work and exercise courtesy and tact in receiving the public; ability to maintain the integrity of sensitive and highly confidential information; ability to operate a computer, phones and radio equipment and have personal skills that are conducive to dealing effectively with people under stress. This position requires a personality that is welcoming to the general public.Must meet minimum standards for the appointment and continued employment of public safety officers in the State of Montana in pursuant of Montana Administrative Rule (ARM) 23.13.201. as prescribed by the Montana Public Safety Officer Standards and Training Council. ARM 23.13.201: . Applicant must be able to successfully complete classes designed for animal handling, control and rescue; be able to participate in the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office fitness program and experience working with animals and the general public is preferred.
 
Licenses and Certifications: Position must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the state of Montana or attain a Montana driver’s license within six months of hire and be insurable under the County’s liability policies.

As a condition of hire, the final candidates will be required to successfully pass an extensive background investigation and fingerprinting will be performed to disclose any criminal record or convictions.

Work Environment/Physical Demands 

Work is performed in a normal office environment and in the field working outdoors; must be physically able to lift, push and pull animals into and out of the animal control vehicle; kneel and crouch to pick up animals; manipulate animal behaviors; have exposure to sick, injured and dangerous animals; work various shifts including nights and weekends and the availability to be on call.
