What part will you play?

● GAF Energy is seeking an Applications Technician on a contract basis to install specialized residential solar products to harvest energy from rooftops

● This role will report to the Design Applications Engineering Manager, with project supervision by Design Applications Engineer 3.

● The ideal candidate must have a hands-on, can-do approach to projects, able to work quickly and accurately under pressure.

● Strong construction skills, especially roofing, electrical and solar, attention to detail, and ability to complete work independently.

● This person will be assisting various teams primarily at the San Jose campus while actively prepping, installing and disassembling R&D installations.

What will you be doing?

● Reporting to San Jose RnD/manufacturing facility every day with occasional offsite visits to demo builds and training.

● Prep roofs for installation of roofing and solar.

● Determine type and quantity of materials and tools needed to install roofing and solar.

● Operate scissor lifts, forklifts, material hoists, and hand trucks to stage materials at job sites and on roofs.

● Setup, secure and strike ladders.

● Use Personal Fall Arrest Systems and install safety anchors.

● Work in coordination with R&D engineers, factory technicians, field deployment and electrical services teams.

● Follow installation plans to install roofing and new solar technologies.

● Work with hand tools and power tools.

● Report on work progress and build discoveries to stakeholders.

● Work closely with R&D engineers.

● Support facility needs such as roof and building maintenance and general housekeeping.

● Build roof test fixtures and roofs to perform testing.

What do we require from you?

● Punctual and good time keeping.

● 2 years experience in roofing and/or solar construction.

● Hands-on construction skills with hardware, tools, measurement techniques.

● Licensed to drive in the United States.

● Ability to work and communicate effectively within a product development engineering organization. This includes good written and spoken communication skills.

● Microsoft Office or Google Suite experience

● Problem solving skills and an aptitude for learning quickly

● Able to manage simultaneous activities and challenges

● Able to complete assigned work while following established safety practices.

● Willingness to travel when required

● Experience working at height (rooftop) following safety practices

● Posses or obtain forklift, scissor lift certifications

Additional qualifications (not required)

● OSHA 10, 30 or other safety certifications, preferred but not required

Physical Requirements

● Must be able to wear safety equipment (weighing up to 15 lbs) and perform work at heights.

● Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

● Must be able to climb ladders and/or stairs.

● Must be able to walk, stand, and maintain balance on sloped surfaces such as roofs.

● Frequent sitting, walking, standing, and occasional climbing; stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing is required.

● Frequent use of eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of tools and equipment is required.

● Communicating verbally in person and through automated devices such as the telephone are required.

● Must be able to wear safety equipment and perform work in a production environment.

● Ability to walk, lift, carry, grasp, bend, reach, kneel, climb stairs and ladders is required.

● Ability to work in standing operations for long periods of time is required.

● Specific vision abilities including close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus is required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $27.00 - $36.00 per hour
