Job Description:

Exactly Right Media is looking for a Director of Development to further the growth of our network programming slate. This position in large part will help identify and develop new podcasts of various genres and formats for the network, as well as further develop and shop our current IP library for television and film.

We are looking for a creative self-starter with strong storytelling instincts who knows how to generate new projects through both creator outreach and internal ideation. This position requires at least 5 years of development experience in podcasting or television.

This position will report directly to the COO. Ongoing and daily duties and responsibilities include:

  • Implement creative directives defined by the leadership team to develop engaging content that achieves excellence in podcasting and resonates with targeted audiences.
  • Track, solicit, develop and oversee all stages of the development process, including hearing pitches, giving creative notes from pitch to production, participating in finding key talent, evaluating budgets, and participating in decisions pertaining to production partners and physical production.
  • Build and manage relationships with talent, agencies and outside production companies to receive new pitches, identify and scout exciting new talent in the podcasting space, and collaborate with partners to develop original audio content.
  • Act as point of contact for development on assigned projects in production, collating creative direction from the network and delivering creative notes to talent and production teams.
  • Leverage internal and industry data to further develop a successful slate of podcasting talent and programming.
  • Create pitch materials and shop the current network IP library for television, film and other derivative content.
  • Collaborate with network executives, producers, marketing and legal teams on project assets and strategies.
  • Lead internal development meetings and oversee department administrative team, workflow and communications.


Qualifications:

  • 5 years experience as a podcast or television development executive or executive/managing/line producer.
  • Creative thinker with a track record for excellent taste and an enthusiastic passion for storytelling.
  • Extensive knowledge of true crime and comedy preferred with special interest in unscripted, documentary style, and chat show formats.
  • Well versed in podcast and entertainment industry news.
  • Experience working with high profile talent and their representatives is required.
  • Build and maintain successful relationships with writers, managers, agents, producers, and buyers.
  • Ability to ideate and write pitch decks, present and incorporate notes on pitch materials, and deliver engaging pitches for network IP to potential buyers in television and film.
  • Basic understanding of production budgets and standard deal terms.
  • Exercise strong multi-tasking skills and be able to manage multiple projects at various stages.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and time management skills.


Work Environment:

  • Standard office and in-studio environment in Burbank.
  • May be required to work weekend and/or non-standard hours.
  • A minimum amount of travel may be required.
