Fastening Solutions is Hiring a Manager, Fleet and Safety Near Montgomery, AL

Headquartered in Montgomery, Alabama, Fastening Solutions (FSI) regionally distributes and markets industrial quality tools and fasteners to manufacturers, lumber yards and contractors. Specifically, FSI focuses on selling wood fasteners consisting of collated nails, staples, screws and tools.

Additionally, FSI sells steel, plastic, and woven strapping systems along with various load containment packaging products. FSI also repairs and services pneumatic/battery-operated hand tools and power strapping equipment. The company operates 18 branches across the southeast.

Role Overview: As the Manager, Fleet and Safety, you will be responsible for the strategic planning, efficient management, and regulatory compliance of our company's fleet operations. This pivotal role involves overseeing the acquisition, maintenance, and performance optimization of vehicles and warehouse equipment, while also ensuring the safety and compliance of our fleet operations. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with our Outside Service Technicians to support our industrial customers and uphold our commitment to excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fleet Operations Management:
    • Manage the acquisition and disposition of vehicles and equipment, including negotiations with vendors for optimal pricing.
    • Develop and implement fleet strategies to ensure smooth operations and minimize downtime.
    • Monitor and optimize vehicle utilization to maximize efficiency.
    • Ensure proper certification and training of vehicle and equipment operators.
    • Emphasize safety protocols throughout the company.
  • Fleet Maintenance:
    • Establish preventive maintenance schedules and inspection procedures to ensure reliability and safety.
    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance, inspections, and repairs to meet regulatory standards.
  • Cost Control:
    • Design and manage fuel and maintenance programs to control costs.
    • Identify opportunities for cost savings through efficient resource allocation and vendor negotiation.
    • Analyze financial data and performance metrics to track expenses and improve efficiency.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Stay updated on transportation regulations and industry standards to ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and legal requirements.
    • Collaborate with regulatory authorities and government agencies as necessary to address compliance issues.
  • Outside Service Technicians:
    • Monitor and support technicians in maintaining appropriate parts inventory levels.
    • Advocate for technicians when troubleshooting issues with sales and purchasing teams.
    • Maintain and update standard operating procedures for technicians and implement new procedures as needed.
    • Review technician service routes and make recommendations to increase efficiency and productivity.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree is a plus.
  • Proven experience in fleet management, preferably in an industrial setting.
  • Strong understanding of transportation regulations and safety standards.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and fleet management software.
