QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree required with preference given to the following:

1. Prior administrative, teaching, or sports management experience

2. Prior athletic administrative experience

3. Prior Varsity coaching experience

4. Possession of the desire to help people learn and grow


KNOWLEDGE OF:

1. Principles, goals, and objectives of public education

2. Methods, techniques, procedures, and strategies concerning the development and maintenance of an effective interscholastic sports program

3. Policies, regulations, and procedures pertaining to interscholastic sports and special project activities

4. Sports interest groups and organizations within the local community and the greater metropolitan area

5. Modern trends pertaining to interscholastic sports processes and activities


ABILITY TO:

1. Provide specialized resource support and coordination of a creative and innovative sports program

2. Analyze and assess interscholastic sports program needs, and offer recommendations pertaining to program activity revisions, additions, or deletions

3. Participate in the evaluation of the district interscholastic sports and special project programs and activities

4. Understand and carry out oral and written directions with minimal accountability controls

5. Communicate effectively in oral and written form

6. Establish and maintain effective organization, community, and public relationships


JOB GOAL:

Under general direction, to assist in the planning, development, and implementation of the policies, regulations, guidelines, and procedures pertaining to a school site interscholastic sports program; to serve as a resource to administrators and interscholastic sports personnel concerning sports and recreation activities; and to do other related functions as directed.


DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

This position classification requires professional expertise in interscholastic athletic activities commonly associated with public schools. Directly related teaching and instructional experience is required to perform demonstration teaching and athletic skill development. Problem analysis processes are required using prescribed interscholastic sport principles, methods and concepts. The position classification makes decisions of considerable consequence in determining how best to compete in a secondary school sports program. The functional role of this position classification requires the application and interpretation of data, facts, procedures, regulations and policies. The incumbent meets frequently with school administrators, other staff and parents to communicate information, data, and alternative problem solutions. This is a non-sedentary position classification that performs light to medium work that involves walking, running and standing for extended periods. This position requires accurate perception of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with educational sport learning aids, materials and objects, and providing oral information and direction. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable a person with a disability to perform the essential functions of the job.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:


MANAGEMENT OF ATHLETIC EVENTS

1. Scheduling athletic events within district policies, regulations and guidelines

2. Supervising athletic events

3. Managing balanced, competitive, and complete schedules for each sport

4. Obtaining and managing a signed contract for each event

5. Canceling and rescheduling events due to weather or other factors

6. Managing events: assigning workers, half-time events

7. Planning supplemental events such as Senior Nights

8. Managing set up and tear down each event

9. Creating and managing individual athlete schedules etc. (Gymnastics, Golf, Swimming)

10. Creating and managing a transportation schedule

11. Managing officials for all home events

12. Arranging for appropriate security at events

13. Coordinating Awards Programs and Pep Sessions

14. Attending major away events including state tournament play and most varsity conference play

15. Supervising athletic trainer schedule and athletic secretary schedule

16. Managing rosters

17. Creating event programs

18. Creating and maintaining practice schedules


SUPERVISING AND EVALUATING

1. Assists site administrators in conducting annual reviews, hiring, and creating professional development plans for coaching staff members

2. Conducting meetings keeping coaches abreast of current IHSAA regulations

3. Managing IHSAA required coach certifications and CPR/first aid training


MAINTAINING BUDGETS

1. Purchasing uniforms

2. Overseeing purchases of equipment and supplies

3. Organizing annual fund raisers

4. Seeking out corporate sponsorships

5. Managing concession stand: inventory, shopping, stocking, and working the concessions stand often

6. Working with Booster Club where applicable

7. Submits a year-end financial report on athletic fund to Central office


PUBLIC RELATIONS

1. Communicating game, practice schedules with parents and community - using online resources such are Remind and Eventlink.

2. Create winter sports program to use at varsity basketball games

3. Creating or maintaining social media relevant to athletics


ATHLETIC ORGANIZATIONS MEMBERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Attending PCC meetings, IHSAA meetings, Sectional meetings

2. Attending IHSAA AD Workshop

3. Administering all school district interscholastic policies and procedures as well as the Rules and By-Laws of the Indiana High School Athletic Association.

4. Completing required PCC and IHSAA rosters and forms per varsity sport

5. Updating IHSAA website information including coach contact

6. Managing IHSAA Athletic transfers

7. Completing IHSAA Officials survey

8. Overseeing completion of IHSAA coach’s surveys

STUDENT ATHLETE MANAGEMENT

1. Maintains a permanent file of medical examinations, insurance forms, records, parent consent forms, insurance payments, emergency treatment forms, etc., for each participating athlete

2. Managing student academic progress for eligibility

3. Managing student athletes discipline according to EPCSC Athletic Policy

4. Coordinating and facilitating student athlete leadership councils and events

5. Maintaining athletic handbook

6. Managing and assisting with conflict resolution


OTHER ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Maintains permanent records for each sport, such as wins and losses, outstanding records, letter winners, etc.

2. Managing and supervising the maintenance, care and improvements of athletic fields and facilities

3. Assisting with lunch time supervision

4. Assisting with minor discipline (no suspensions or expulsions)

5. Leading/representing school in absence of other administration

6. Assisting with PBIS incentives (particularly in middle school)

7. Other performance responsibilities as assigned
