Job Description

Job Title: Process Development Technician

Department: Engineering Services

Reports To: Engineering Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

SUMMARY

Responsible for ensuring the proper setup and optimal performance of various equipment and processes throughout the APQP process. Work closely with the engineering and operations team to identify best practices, process improvements, and ensure equipment is appropriately utilized to facilitate new business growth.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned by Team Leader or Supervisor. Must maintain a regular, reliable, consistent and punctual attendance in accordance with assigned schedule and time off policies.

  • Ability to setup, run and troubleshoot progressive stamping equipment including knowledge of SmartPack press control software
  • Responsible for all process documentation related to stamping tooling & press setup
  • Lead operations team through tooling trials and tooling buyoff/PPAP process
  • Collect and analyze data to determine root cause or make recommendations on immediate actions, long term corrective actions or follow up trials
  • Design robust processes that ensure the safety of all team members
  • Reporting faults and breakdowns to supervisors and production engineers.
  • Manage and schedule suppliers for work within the plant when required
  • Support production process troubleshooting as required
  • Drive continuous improvement projects/kaizen events in the stamping area
  • Will be process owner responsible for the stamping tooling and stamping process from initial concept through end of life.
  • Key member of corrective action team for any tooling/stamping process related issues

  • Possess exceptional teamwork skills. Must be able to collaborate efficiently with colleagues and other departments involved in the production and APQP process.
  • Must be able to communicate professionally with colleagues and managers and communicate process details to other departments.
  • Have the ability to see and solve problems before they exist or cause program delays, production inefficiencies etc.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose process issues that arise and develop effective solutions for preventing them from reoccurring later.

EDUCATION & EXPERINCE

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. 
  • Associates degree in a technical field is preferred
  • Relevant technical training or certification
  • At least 5 years of stamping process experience 
  • Strong knowledge of press controls and sensor application
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Must be skilled in analyzing the production process, identifying areas for improvement, and providing solutions.
  • Must be knowledgeable in computer operations such as Office 365
  • Ability to follow all applicable policies and standards concerning process documentation

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Must have ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, production and quality recording, procedure manuals and manufacturing work instructions.

Physical Demands:

The employee is regularly required to use fingers, handle, feel and reach; frequently required to 

stand, walk, sit, bend, lift and talk or hear; occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, 

crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific 

vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and 

depth perception.

Work Environment: 

The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level is usually loud. 

All proper PPE must be worn in all manufacturing areas and responsible for maintaining PPE 

standards.
