POSITION: Ophthalmic Technician (This is a part-time position)

LOCATION: Corydon, IN

JOB SUMMARY: This individual is responsible for performing an extensive number of ophthalmic data collection functions, as delegated by the physician, to allow for proper professional diagnosis of patients’ conditions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1. High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred.

2. One to two years experience as a certified ophthalmic assistant (preferred).

3. Valid proof of certification as an ophthalmic assistant (preferred).

1. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

2. Empathetic personality with concern for patients’ needs.

3. Strong organization with attention to detail.

4. Ability to work as a team member.

5. Demonstrated computer literacy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Communication and Patient Care

a. Acquaint all new patients with office procedures to which they will be exposed.

b. Obtain patient history

c. Perform accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks.

2. Triage

a. Ensure efficient patient flow

c. Advise patients as to who will see them following testing and makes patients comfortable during wait.

3. Instrument Maintenance

a. Troubleshoots instruments as necessary.

b. Performs autoclaving and maintenance of instrument sterility.

4. Administrative

a. Seeks advice from more senior staff as necessary, never performing beyond capabilities.

b. Maintains cleanliness in exam and procedure rooms.

c. Maintains back up levels of stock in exam and procedure rooms.

d. Performs other duties as required.

This position operates in a professional office environment.
