About us

The Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), was created by Pope Saint John Paul II in 1985 as the only Catholic diocese responsible for the pastoral care of Catholics in the Military, their dependents, patients in VA hospitals, students at the service academies and federal employees working outside of the U.S. The Archdiocese is the only Catholic endorsing agency that endorses and grants faculties for priests to serve as chaplains in the U.S. Military and VA Medical Centers.

Position Summary:

Working under the direction of the Executive Director of Advancement and working closely with the Associate Director of Advancement, the Donor Relations Officer is responsible for successfully managing a portfolio of qualified potential donors who are capable of making commitments of $35,000 or more.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter with a strong ability to identify and cultivate major gift prospects and move them toward solicitation. This position will take the lead in identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift donors and creatively identify and engage prospects and donors in meaningful ways that further the mission of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage, build, and develop a portfolio of approximately 150 donors and 25 prospects; moving donors along the prospect pipeline, and nurturing and deepening relationships to understand better and align strategically donors’ priorities and goals with the needs of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA.
  • Conducts 100-125 meaningful connections or more annually (15-18/month) virtually or in-person visits to engage, cultivate and solicit.
  • Solicit between 15-20 gifts of $35,000 and more, with increased emphasis and activity on gifts of $50,000, $75,000, and $100,000 annually with the goal of qualifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gifts.
  • Spearheads activity and strategies to upgrade donors to higher giving levels, writing and/or editing briefing documents, funding proposals, and other materials as needed.
  • Using Salesforce CRM to document all prospect contacts in a timely manner to ensure positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations as conducted.
  • Working closely with the Executive Director of Advancement, serve as a liaison to continue a working relationship with the Saint John XXIII Foundation.
  • Develops and maintains productive and respectful relationships with clergy, staff, chaplains, donors, volunteers, and friends of the military and the Church. Responsible for professional and courteous communication, a timely response, and facilitating the proper and timely processing and acknowledgment of major gifts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 3-4 years professional experience in fundraising, non-profit administration, event planning, higher education, or a combination of the same.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Commitment to the values and mission of the Archdiocese with a comprehensive understanding of the Catholic Church and military life and structure.
  • Proven ability to develop and foster relationships with people at all levels of an organization, and to collaborate and influence at a high level.
  • Salesforce or other fundraising software experience preferred; skilled in using Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn a new system quickly is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organization skills, including the ability to manage multiple demands and/or projects simultaneously.
  • Able to apply sound judgment, maintain the confidentiality of proprietary data, and conduct oneself with integrity and focus.
  • This position will require the willingness and ability to frequently travel domestically; and to be able to work some weekends and evenings.
  • Sense of humor and comfort level in working in a fast-paced environment. Desire to work collaboratively and with spirit of teamwork and collaboration.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
