  • 7 years of experience working directly within engineering teams
  • Experience partnering with product OR program management teams
  • 3 years of people management experience, managing engineers
  • 3 years of experience architecting and designing (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 8 years professional experience in software development.
  • 5 years managing software engineering teams with at least 6 direct reports.
  • A business and tech-savvy, analytical manager with a verifiable track record of managing and delivering complex projects on time and within budget.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage stress effectively in a fast-paced environment with flexibility balancing feasibility and viability.
  • Ability to hire and develop strong technical talent and leaders.
  • Communicate ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing, to all types of audiences including Directors, VPs, software engineers, and quality assurance engineers.
  • A strong "roll up your sleeves" mentality - you're comfortable delegating and understand when you need to dive deep to solve complex problems.
  • Multiple years experience and application of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis.

What you will do here
You will manage a team of software engineers to build next generation cloud technologies that leverage big data and machine learning to improve user engagement with mobile apps and web applications. These services will power the world’s leading social media, gaming, sports, educational, and consumer applications.
We are growing the AWS Pinpoint service and need your leadership to ensure our software is designed to be highly performant, reliable, and maintainable.
In this role you will:
  • Lead highly-effective software engineers to deliver highly available and reliable software for large, critical, and complex systems.
  • Independently lead hiring and performance management for your team. You recognize high and low performers and understand how to coach individuals for performance at both ends of the spectrum.
  • Influence the team to have a test-first mentality to prevent issues from affecting customers. You understand the nuances and challenges with cross-platform development.
  • Operate at a high level and know when to dive deep. Perform peer code-reviews, write technical design documents, as well as lead and participate in technical design discussions.
  • Work in a team environment to collaborate and strive for consensus by making data-driven decisions.
  • Own the project from start to finish. Operate in an Agile/Kanban environment to continuously deliver high quality software, while consistently hitting immutable project delivery dates.
  • Have a high attention to detail, working closely with business and technical stakeholders to drive measurable results.
