Position Summary

The Neighborhood Developers (TND) is hiring a full-time, hybrid Housing Hotline Associate to help Revere, Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford, Melrose, Arlington, and Winthrop residents with low and moderate incomes apply for rental assistance. Organization Overview

TND is a non-profit community development organization with a mission to create strong neighborhoods enabling community members to secure a stable home, achieve economic mobility, and determine their own future. We build affordable homes, organize community leaders, and, through our CONNECT program, support households to achieve greater financial mobility by helping them access public benefits, find better jobs, and through financial coaching. TND’s headquarters is in Chelsea, where it has operated since 1978. The organization was invited into Revere in 2010, and since 2018, we are also offering some of our services in Everett. Our CONNECT program is a Financial Opportunity Center and partnership of community and nonprofit organizations where residents of our communities can get support to remain in or secure a home, find a better job, improve household finances, and make realistic, achievable plans for a strong financial future all in one place. The Housing Hotline Associate will assist residents from diverse backgrounds apply for Residential Assistance for Families in Transition (RAFT), and access other resources, to be able to remain in their home, pay their utilities, or secure a new apartment. Specifically, the Housing Hotline Associate will work 1:1 with RAFT applicants, help them fill out applications, gather the necessary documentation, submit applications for approval, and, where appropriate, refer them to other helpful services. Our Housing Assistance Hotline has helped households apply for and receive close to 17 million in emergency housing assistance over the last four years, while maintaining a client-centered advocacy model. This is an exciting time to join a growing team at CONNECT dedicated to preserving people’s homes and preventing evictions and displacement.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 assistance to Revere, Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford, Melrose, Arlington, and Winthrop residents applying for RAFT and other rental assistance.
  • Help clients fill out RAFT and other rental assistance applications.
  • Help clients gather all necessary documents for RAFT and other rental assistance applications.
  • Submit RAFT applications to Metro Housing|Boston, our partner organization, for approval.
  • Work with families to understand their goals and develop medium-term housing sustainability plans.
  • Refer clients to other critical resources, services, and programs within and outside of
  • Record outcomes and the progress of clients served.
  • Maintain an accurate understanding of relevant RAFT program eligibility rules application requirements and processes.
  • A commitment to TND’s mission.
  • Experience with rental assistance programs or housing case management.
  • Experience working with partner organizations.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills (we regularly use Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, DropBox, Salesforce, Canva, and Zoom).
  • Detail-oriented, well-organized, and ability to work in collaboration and independently.
  • Familiarity with Revere, Chelsea, Everett, MA, and surrounding communities.
