Position Summary

Review a variety of construction plans and proposals to determine impact fees associated with that project for roadway facilities, parks, recreation, trails and open space facilities, public safety facilities and drainage facilities in accordance with applicable ordinances; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Related education and experience may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering, architecture, construction management, or related field and;
Three (3) years construction plan checking experience. Technical engineering experience preferred. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's license, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six months from date of hire.
Preferred Knowledge

  • Computer programs such as Windows and Excel
  • Modern methods and procedures of construction
  • Principles and practices of plans examination work
  • Principles and procedures of on-site inspection work
  • Pertinent impact fee ordinances and regulations governing assigned area
  • Modern office procedures, methods and equipment including computers
  • Principles and procedures of record keeping
Preferred Skills & Abilities

  • Produce reports and analyze data
  • Analyze, interpret and accurately check construction plans, proposals and specifications within assigned area
  • Interpret, apply and enforce applicable impact fee ordinances and regulations
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of plan and specification checks
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public
  • Conduct on-site inspections
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions and demonstrating intellectual capabilities
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities
  • Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the
  • successful performance of assigned duties
