Education and Experience:
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED; AA/AS or additional education preferred
Minimum Experience: 0-3 Years experience

This position is eligible for a $1,000 sign-on bonus after 90 working days. The starting pay rate for this position is $14.10 per hour.

General Definition:
The Westmoreland Intermediate Unit is seeking qualified applicants for Full-Time Personal Care Assistants within our Early Intervention Program at various sites across Westmoreland County. The Personal Care Assistant assists students while they receive special education services. The assistant's role is to increase the potential effectiveness of the student's program by freeing the teacher from the non-instructional activities of the classroom. The role of the assistant varies according to the program assignment.

Description of Duties:
  • Supports students at the direction of the teacher and the special education supervisor.
  • Provides instructional, behavioral and/or physical assistance to an individual student or a small group of students including, but not limited to, the use of assistive technology, on-task prompting, facilitating social skills, and self-care skills.
  • Works with students on organizational skills, guides students in activities, and monitors student progress.
  • Collects daily data and documents progress notes in a prescribed format for each session with assigned students.
  • Meets and discharges assigned students at the bus.
  • Aids students in removing and putting on wraps, bathing, feeding and toileting.
  • Assists students during recreational and training games.
  • Assists students in the use of teaching devices -- special individual materials.
  • Carries out teacher's prescribed instructions for reinforcing activities in the visual, auditory and gross motor areas.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of the Executive Director, Student Services Director or designee.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of documentation standards and demonstrated skill to meet documentation expectations
  • Knowledge of pertinent law and regulations regarding mental health service delivery and Pennsylvania Special Education
  • Ability to use technology as applicable
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of students in various socioeconomic and multicultural areas.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively in a team environment

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Other:
Act 114 (Federal Criminal History), Act 34, Act 151 PA Child Abuse History Clearance and Act 126 (Mandatory Reporter) clearances as well as valid PA driver's license.

Clearances must be current within 5 years from date of hire and a School Personnel Health Record current within 1 year from date of hire accompanied by Tuberculosis Test Result within 3 months of date of hire.

Travel Requirements:
  • A minimal to moderate amount of travel is required for this position within Westmoreland County and throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
  • Must have reliable transportation
