Job Description

SUMMARY:

Global Kids’ (GK) mission is to educate, inspire, and mobilize youth to become global citizens who are positively engaged in the world and are prepared for their future. Over its 35-year history, the organization has engaged thousands of young people in its’ innovative youth development programs that promote global awareness and action; building their agency to affect change in their community and beyond. In 2022, Global Kids expects to serve over 13,000 youth and educators in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Houston, Texas. Its core service delivery model includes leadership development workshops, comprehensive after-school programs, and community schools. These programs foster essential skills, provide critical support, and establish pathways for future youth success. 

Global Kids, Inc. is seeking a Director of Community Schools who will oversee GK’s 21st CCLC and Community School programs in Brooklyn and Queens. The Director of Community Schools will lead the development, implementation, and stewardship of GK’s core service delivery model in New York City, school-based settings. This model promotes in-school and afterschool youth development, global awareness and leadership programs, core services in attendance improvement, parent engagement, social and emotional learning, mental health interventions, and community outreach. 

Reporting to the Senior Director of School-Based Programs- High Schools, the DCS will provide leadership and oversight in the implementation of the service delivery model; ensuring that program quality is of the highest caliber, outcomes are attained, and fidelity to mission is adhered. 

The Director will help steer the program's strategic growth in NYC through a combination of program development, program management and partnership building. 

Responsibilities include:

Supervision and Management: 

  • Provide overall support and supervision of school-based directors
  • Schedule meetings with site directors to provide program updates, plan events, and ensure all programs remain in compliance with 21st CCLC, DYCD, and DOE contracts.
  • Conduct weekly check-ins, conduct program/staff observations with immediate feedback, and coach staff as needed 
  • Support program directors with program design and activities that focus on global and local issues, STEM, arts, social-emotional health, service-learning and other content areas 
  • Ensure staff and student participation in GK city-wide events 
  • Collaborate with key members of GK staff to recruit and support the hiring of program staff 
  • Oversee and manage multi-site program budgets 
  • Occasional overnight and long-distance travel required (annual retreats, college trips) 

Contract Management & Administrative Tasks 

  • Manage DYCD and 21st CCLC site visits 
  • Conduct pre and post-evaluation surveys to measure program impact 
  • Remain informed on current 21st CCLC, DYCD, and DOE guidelines and contractor responsibilities by attending provider meetings and maintaining contact with the DYCD Program Manager, Office of Community Schools Program Manager, Office of School Health Program Manager, NYC 21st CCLC Technical Assistance and Resource Center, and local evaluators for the grants 
  • Ensure all program and student records are securely maintained
  • Follow all fiscal procedures for ordering supplies and reporting expenses 

Partnerships and Development 

  • Support in building strong, collaborative relationships with school leaderships 
  • Help navigate, secure resources, and build/sustain relationships with participants, guardians, school staff, other CBOs, and policymakers 
  • Partner with school staff to ensure high quality and safe programming 
  • Monitor and report on the impact and quality of programming 
  • Ensure school-based directors conduct assets and needs assessments 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Advanced degree in related field and 3 years relevant professional experience or bachelor’s degree or 6 years relevant professional experience 
  • Experience with or deep knowledge of 21st CCLC, DYCD COMPASS High, and Community Schools programs
  • Experience supervising personnel and managing teams 
  • Experience working in or closely with NYC public schools 
  • Experience and enthusiasm using interactive learning strategies with high school-aged youth, 
  • Commitment to and understanding of working in culturally diverse settings and using antiracist pedagogical practices 
  • Knowledge of and passion for global issues, political science, history, education social justice and human rights 
  • Excellent facilitation, consensus-building, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Strong work ethic, initiative, creativity, willingness to learn, and ability to manage multiple tasks independently. 
  • Strong communication, writing, organizational, and technology skills. 
  • International experience and foreign language background a plus. 

SALARY AND BENEFITS: This full-time exempt position has an annual salary of $98,000 also offers affordable medical benefits (with plans as low as $1/month), dental, and life insurance as well as paid holidays, 12 vacation days (year 1), increasing thereafter based on years of employment, 3 personal days, and 8 sick days. Additionally, the GK offices are closed between Christmas and New Year’s Day. GK staff also have access to retail discounts and other benefits through our Professional Employer Organization (PEO).
