A Ball Mill Operator is responsible for ensuring a mill is producing a quality product as specified in the “Production Sampling and Testing Guidelines”. Operator reports to the Ball Mill Complex Coordinator. This position works a 12 hour rotating schedule on night shift, 6:00pm to 6:00 am.
Responsible for maintaining compliance with the Huber Sustainability Management Standard requirements, within their sphere of influence. This may or may not include compliance with any air permits, waste water permits, storm water permits, or other rules as presented to the employee as requirements.
Potentially Significant EH&S Impact(s): In charge of monitoring their equipment for visible emissions, shutting down equipment with visible emissions and reporting emissions to their area coordinator. Deal with petroleum spills properly.
1. The Ball Mill Operator operates four Ball Mill units (1, 7, 27, 28, 29, 36, 37, 38, 47), three coating system, Bulk truck and Rail load out systems, and a granulation system which provides feed for Ball Mill unites, as well as producing bulk granular products.
2. Operation and Preventive Maintenance including too but not limited to the following equipment: Loss in Weight Feeders, Sifters, Classifiers, Rotary Air Locks, Rotary Dump Valves, Screw Conveyers, Bucket Elevator Legs, Product Blowers, Dust Collectors/Bag House and product cyclone.
3. Inspects mill unit area for unsafe conditions daily.
4. Operates mills in a safe and efficient manner.
5. Performs preventative maintenance servicing of equipment as required. Ensures electrical equipment is locked out before repair work begins.
6. Produces and loads materials as established by the Plant Scheduler or Area Coordinator.
7. Obtains in-process, final product, or load out samples on pre-determined intervals “Production Sampling and Testing Guidelines”.
8. Inspects trucks and rail cars before loading.
9. Prepares required daily operation reports.
10. May direct one or more personnel in the packaging process. The operator may be required to perform packaging duties based upon location or under direction of the Area Coordinator.
11. Advises succeeding Ball Mill Operator(s), coordinator, and maintenance of operating problems and conditions.
12. Employees must learn and observe all applicable company policies and safe practices and perform all duties assigned by supervisor. This description covers the significant duties of the job but may not include occasional assignments which would be within the evaluation of this job.
13. Knowledgeable of the ISO quality system as required to assure compliance to the ISO 9001 quality standard.
Works in control room and in mill unit building exposed to heat, cold, noise, vibrations, grease, oil, ground limestone and somewhat dirty conditions. Plant milling system equipment is located on multiple levels and requires climbing stairs or stationary ladders to monitor and/or adjust its operation.
