Position Purpose:
Substance Use Disorder Counselor counsels and aids individuals, groups and families requiring assistance in dealing with substance use and co-occurring problems, such as alcohol or drug use, mental health and/or chemical dependency and use.
Qualifications:
A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in groups and public settings is essential. Must demonstrate highly developed verbal and written communication skills; demonstrate skill in clinical interviewing; demonstrate skills in consultation and the ability to work as part of a team. Must respect and maintain confidentiality of all aspects of client treatment. Current certification in CPR and first aid is required or can be obtained shortly after being hired. Education and experience are a plus and must match those required for professional credentialing boards. Recognition by the Missouri Credentialing Board (MCB), or its successor, as:
Must pass background check provided for the agency by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Family Care Safety Registry which includes the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Department of Social Services, Department of Mental Health and Department of Health and Senior Services. Must not be on any “do not hire” list with the Department of Mental Health or the Missouri Division of Family Services. Must have reliable transportation.
