The Conviction Integrity Unit (CIU) of the District Attorney’s Office is charged with investigating problematic past convictions for credible claims of actual innocence, wrongful conviction and, where feasible, sentencing inequities. In doing so, prosecutors in this unit strive to increase transparency, integrity and trust in the criminal justice system, holding publicly accountable those who abuse their positions of authority. When warranted through their investigation, unit prosecutors work to reverse unjust sentences resulting from government misconduct.

Job Summary
The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office is seeking Paralegals to provide support to CIU prosecutors. Responsibilities may include maintenance of records and files, document review and production, organizing and responding to incoming mail, email, and calls to the CIU, maintaining databases, assist with preliminary case screening, and coordination with outside agencies.
Essential functions within the Conviction Integrity Unit:
  • Create files for all attorney and pro se submissions and complete the preliminary investigation of all pro se CIU submissions.
  • Attend and summarize regular CIU meetings and other meetings as needed.
  • Prepare documents for discovery such as redacting documents.
  • Create and maintain filing system for Brady/Giglio database.
  • Oversee and track incoming mail, attorney calendars, and databases.
  • Assist in other administrative duties such as time sheets, reserve conference room, answer calls, draft memos, and book travel.
Skills & Qualifications
  • 2 years of paralegal experience in the DA’s Office or another law enforcement agency is preferred
  • Intermediate to expert ability with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Proven critical thinking skills and a willingness to learn.
  • All qualified applicants must have earned a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Candidates must be organized, flexible and capable of working under pressure.
  • Ability to develop and cultivate effective internal/external working relationships is essential.
  • Understanding of the uniquely sensitive and confidential nature of the professional services provided by the Office.
