Main Purpose

Commercial Optimization; Economic analysis of Trafigura's North American system including owning price set, LP and feedstock and product characterization. Provide planning and economic drives to customers. Manage plan versus actual reconciliation and present analysis to internal stakeholders. While the position has no direct reports, managing relationships internally and externally is key to success in the role.

Key Responsibilities

• Economic analysis - the ability to evaluate new crude and product opportunities to maximise the gross margin of the business.
• Provide economic drives to customers both internal and external.
• Single point of accountability between Trafigura's trading team and Trafigura's third party partners.
• Own and update the weekly Trafigura price set as required.
• Ensure Trafigura's economic drives are being followed on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
• Participate in daily and weekly operations meetings with Trafigura's third party partners.
• Identify new commercial opportunities based on LP runs being performed and explain to non-technical people the drives and economics.
• Utilize, maintain and develop Trafigura's Linear Program (LP).
• Review monthly reconciliation produced by third party partners.
• Produce additional monthly reconciliation as required by Trafigura.
• Monitor refinery operations including quality giveaway, fuel and loss and general constraints.
• Hold responsibility for blending models as required.
• Work together with third party partner scheduling department to ensure scheduling plans maximize gross margin for Trafigura.
• Conduct crude evaluations & update crude approval protocol.
• Provide clear and detailed technical and analytical support to the refining trading team, as well as other desks across the company, with particular focus on trading teams in the Houston office.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Chemical Engineering degree.
• 2-4 years of experience preferably in a supply function.
• Highly proficient in at least two other functions. Among these: planning and economics, general engineering, scheduling, operations.
• Safety oriented.
• Adaptable to changing priorities and capable of working efficiently under pressure.
• Capable of interfacing with all different levels of the organization.
• Problem solving, analytical skills, refinery economics.
• Computer skills.
• Previous LP experience preferred.
• Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to multitask in a high-pressure environment.
• Ability to train/teach engineers and/or process operations/laboratory personnel as required.
