SUMMARY

We are seeking a devoted Part-Time Music Teacher, preferably bi-lingual in English and Spanish, to inspire young minds through music at the Basilica School of St.

Paul. The ideal candidate will teach elementary school music, lead student choirs during Wednesday and occasional Saturday masses, as well as assist the church music director in a positive and Catholic identity-filled environment for elementary students.

The Teacher is responsible to provide an appropriate educational atmosphere which encourages positive student learning and to participate in a dynamic setting with other classroom teachers, administrators, curriculum specialists and other staff members in the development and implementation of the school’s programs and goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification.

• Works with administrators and instructional teams to plan and implement hands-on lesson plans for students.
• Diagnoses and analyzes for the purpose of providing appropriate instruction.
• Utilizes a variety of instructional techniques to meet the individual needs of students.
• Proficient in reading and teaching music and instruments
• Assesses student progress in accordance with the approved procedures of the Diocese of Orlando;
• Utilizes classroom management techniques conducive to an effective classroom climate.
• Participates in the Diocese of Orlando Diocesan Catechist Certification Program and in the school-sponsored professional development programs.
• Cooperates with the principal and staff members in school-related meetings, activities and projects.
• Maintains a safe, orderly and secure learning and working environment.
• Participates in the performance review based upon the implementation of the general responsibilities of a professional educator in a school.
• Maintains confidentiality and discretion regarding school personnel, students, and general school matters.
• Maintains professional relationship between school and parents.
• Maintains contact with parents through parent-teacher conferences, telephone, or written communications.
• Encourages parental involvement through school activities, connecting home and school.
• Maintains all records as required, including but not limited to grade books, attendance records and student progress reports.
• Assists in the protection of student and school property.
• Keeps up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by Diocese Catholic Schools.
• Maintains timely and accurate information relevant to their job responsibilities.
• Performs all tasks in accordance with Diocesan Catholic Schools policies.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the principal to include :
• Catholic Identity Integration : Infuse Catholic values into art lessons, promoting spiritual growth and creativity in both traditional and digital art.
• Curriculum Design : Develop a music curriculum aligned with educational and Catholic standards for elementary grades, incorporating various musical techniques.
• Creative Cultivation : Nurture students' musical talents, encouraging self-expression and exploration in both singing and instrumentation.
• Classroom Atmosphere : Establish a positive and inclusive environment that reflects Catholic values, embracing the integration of technology in music education.
• Assessment and Collaboration : Assess student progress and collaborate with colleagues, integrating music into interdisciplinary learning experiences.
• Participation in Mass, Choirs, Music Performances and Competitions : Encourage and facilitate students' participation in music performances, regional competitions, providing opportunities for recognition and growth.
• Previous experience in music education, including leading choir and religious music preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

CATHOLIC FAITH

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE

• Must have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college that is recognized as acceptable for Florida certification.
• Must hold or obtain a Professional Certificate in the subject area taught within three years of hire.
• Documented progress towards certification must be made within the first year of hire and filed in the school personnel file;

otherwise the teaching contract cannot be renewed.

Must hold or obtain Religious Certification in Levels 1, 2, and 3 within three years of hire and continue ongoing enrichment.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES

The ability to communicate, listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.

Strong command of both written and spoken English language.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Work is performed mostly indoors in an environmentally controlled setting.
• Work is performed in a busy and occasionally noisy environment.
• Work is to be performed directly on school campuses.
• Works frequently in close physical proximity to others and may encounter work in enclosed or tight spaces.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The ability to sit and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to reach, grasp, feel, and see up close and from afar.

Must be able to use basic office computer hardware and peripherals, with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be able to communicate verbally and in written form.

Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, climbing stairs, pushing and / or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (15 pounds).
