Rocky Gap is Hiring a RG GROUNDS SUPERINTENDENT Near Flintstone, MD

SUMMARY:

Responsible for the direction of all activities in the Golf Maintenance department, complying with property policies, procedures and gaming regulations while ensuring efficient operation of the Golf Maintenance department on a continual basis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Oversees the care and maintenance of the turf, ornamental plants, shrubs, trees and wetlands on the golf course and facility grounds.
  • Directs and assists the staff on the planting of new vegetation, the replacement, spraying, pruning and trimming of trees and shrubs, the preparation of soil plant beds for aesthetically pleasing arrangements and tending to high stress areas.
  • Provides detailed annual plan for the various property levels and the designated landscaping areas. Includes rotational design to provide facility with fresh, eye-catching, interesting and pleasant atmosphere.
  • Manages an aggressive water usage tracking plan and irrigation systems and provides monthly reporting on retaining ponds, wells and other water source usage.
  • Recruits, supervises and retains golf maintenance staff. Conducts employee performance evaluations and exercises disciplinary action.
  • Provides technical, operational and safety training for employees to ensure that staff is working within OSHA, club safety, state and federal guidelines for safe working conditions.
  • Oversees subordinates in proper and safe operation and maintenance of mechanical and power equipment. Plans and budgets for additional or replacement capital equipment.
  • Supervises and participates in the application and recording of chemical applications (fertilizers and pesticides) on the Club's grounds in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Supervises and controls all maintenance expenses associated with Golf Course Operations, including payroll, supplies, chemicals and fertilizers.
  • Develops annual operating budget and plans for maintenance and capital improvement projects.
  • Maintains records and completes required reporting. Order parts, supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Schedules maintenance practices around member play and outings to maximize efficiency and minimize disruption to members.
  • Coordinates snow removal and winter maintenance activities when necessary.
  • Develops and participates in special projects as requested by the Senior Director of Hospitality or General Manager.
  • Initiates and maintains communication with subordinates, employees, management, and other departments in facilitating the flow of information throughout the property.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly supervises the Assistant Grounds Superintendent, the Irrigation Specialist, the Equipment Mechanic and the Lead Groundskeeper. Indirectly supervises Golf Maintenance I and II employees and Groundskeepers.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Associate degree or certificate in Turf Management or related and/or four to six years’ experience as Golf Superintendent or 1st Assistant Superintendent, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Pesticide application license required. Certification from the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America preferred.

This position does not require a gaming license,

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex of documents, such as technical journals, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to write effective letters and memos. Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from staff members at all levels, guests, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively communicate in one-on-one, small group, and large group settings. Ability to effectively present information to top management and public groups.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, and work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
