Community HousingWorks is Hiring an After School Program Group Leader - (Onsite) Bandar Salaam Near San Diego, CA

The After School Program Group Leader’s (ASPGL) primary role is to carry out the Study Stars After School Program at CHW apartment communities within the required hours per the regulatory requirements at that assigned CHW community. The ASGL is responsible for the implementation of the following components of the Study Stars After School Program: academic support, enrichment opportunities and building school to home connections for participating students, K-5. The ASGL will foster positive relationships with the students, and encourage peer-to-peer connection to build a welcoming and safe space. Actively engage with participants during program hours with the goal of motivating and creating a positive learning environment.
Role & Responsibilities:
After School Program
  • Parent Engagement – Build relationships with parents to establish trust and foster those relationships throughout the school year, providing responsive and helpful assistance to Study Star families, and effectively communicate.
  • Program Implementation – implement a high-quality and structured after school program including but not limited to: planning, preparation, facilitation of all program activities. Homework, tutoring, iReady, enrichment, community building activities, amongst others.
  • Program Responsibilities: Study Star program: attendance tracking, iReady registration, testing and diagnostics/reporting, program supply orders, participant behavior and academic reporting, communication with families and schools
    • Conducting three diagnostic reports per year
    • Responsible to ensure students complete iReady for 30 minutes each day
    • Program success is determined by the ASPGL reporting/entering data that will measure student retention and program requirements.
  • Supervision of participants – Foster a welcoming, safe, respectful and positive environment conducive to youth development and restorative practices.
  • Maintain Community Center - conducts daily housekeeping duties, maintain a welcoming environment. Report damages or repairs, as needed. Perform safety checks, post evacuation and emergency procedures, etc.
  • Administrative Responsibilities - Complete all administrative tasks such as Kintone data entry, timecards and trainings as required, in a timely manner.
Education and Experience:
  • Minimum Associate’s Degree in Education, Liberal Arts, Child Development, Sociology, Criminal Justice, or relevant field, and/or, or 2 or more years of experience in related fields. Bachelor’s degree desired.
  • Must have experience working with children and adults in similar settings
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Fluency in Somali preferred but not required.
  • Intermediate to Expert experience with computers, Email, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher), database management systems a plus, but not required.
  • CPR/First Aid Certified is required or the training will be provided
Physical Demands:
The physical abilities to perform tasks may require prolonged sitting, standing and/or moving.
Moves throughout the various office spaces, outdoor spaces and building to access areas of resident services. Involves moving on surfaces of various inclinations and ground textures.
Moves equipment weighing between 20-40 pounds without assistance. Moves more than 40 pounds with assistance.
This role requires inspection of sites and areas at varying degrees of distance.
Work Environment:
The noise and climate level in the work environment varies depending on the work site, including outdoor work environments. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with different abilities to perform the roles and responsibilities of this position.
Compensation:
It may vary based on skills, experience and qualifications:
$22.00 - $24.96
