SUMMARY:

The Director of Engineering is responsible for planning and directing the activities of the Product Engineering, Corporate Compliance, and Sales Engineering teams including Engineering Systems and Standards to achieve company goals. The Director of Engineering develops, adheres to, and continuously improves engineering procedures with input of team members, peers, and the executive leadership team. The role will lead the development and implementation of transformation initiatives within the team, anticipating complex issues, challenges, and opportunities – ensuring integration with broader strategy. The role works across internal functions to deliver change by leveraging engineering personnel, data, business processes, and business systems to achieve required business outcomes. Strengthens the capability of the team and provides technical, project and business leadership expertise. Maintains a strong, capable team by driving talent attraction, employee development and innovative employee retention programs with assigned team. Forecasts the need to develop or acquire new engineering talent based on upcoming company initiatives.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Identifies opportunities, deviations, trends, and problems and utilizes expertise to develop and implement staffing, product, and business systems improvements to better serve our customers.
  2. Leads the formulation and implementation of Engineering department goals, objectives, and plans, ensuring attainment or course correction if needed.
  3. Develops and administers project control systems, including Stage Gate and Program Management processes, for high visibility proposed and approved Engineering projects, ensuring that Engineering resources are allocated, focused, efficiently utilized, and that schedule commitments are met.
  4. Works with Product Management and Operations to develop and maintain a long-term product roadmap which forecasts new products, value engineering, compliance, and product maintenance projects across Perlick’s Residential and Commercial businesses.
  5. Supports customer facing activities as needed, ensuring lead-times are met for custom modifications, bar layouts, quote requests, and other sales engineering ticket requests.
  6. Supports a competitor monitoring and evaluation system to ensure detailed knowledge of their strategic direction and innovation.
  7. Ensures Perlick’s Intellectual property procedures are followed by engineering staff to provide competitive advantage in the market. Maintains awareness of relevant intellectual properties and for the specific purpose of avoidance of patent infringement.
  8. Develops budgetary requests for people, project expenses, and capital assets to consolidate them into an overall Engineering budget. Ensure expense management policies and procedures are in place to deliver monthly and annual departmental expenditures within approved budgets.
  9. Directs activities in Engineering or Enterprise projects as necessary and ensures open communications between various functions.
  10. Makes positive change and continuous improvement happen every day.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering required; Master of Engineering or MBA preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years of leadership experience at the Manager level or above.
  • Demonstrated ability to train and develop people to enable them to be highly successful in their current roles and progress to reach career goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across business functions to identify, help prioritize, and deliver on new technology and product development goals.
  • Highly experienced with stage/gate planning, and development processes.
  • Experience with IoT, data management, integrated business systems is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated history of holding self, internal/external teams accountable to deliver projects on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Recognized technical expertise, combined with keen business acumen.
  • Technical leadership in manufacturing businesses that produces appliances, food service equipment, or custom products.
  • Able to effectively communicate in both written and verbal forms.
  • Operates in a way that never compromises ethics and integrity of Perlick. Proven ability to work within a family company culture.
  • United States authorization to work.
