Shore Educational Collaborative is Hiring a K-12 Teacher Near Chelsea, MA

Shore Educational Collaborative was established in 1975 as one of 24 educational collaboratives in Massachusetts, providing public special education to students with disabilities. Over 180 students aged 3-22 attend our school in Chelsea, receiving a comprehensive education and related services.

Our class sizes are intentionally small - usually no more than ten students - with a dedicated paraprofessional in each room. We are currently gathering resumes for elementary, middle, and high school teachers across our programs. If we identify a role that is a fit with your experience, we will reach out to share more and set up an interview.

Role and Responsibilities:

A teacher’s main responsibilities include:

  • Identify students' needs and interests and develop engaging lesson plans
  • Develop individualized education plans (IEPs) for each student, setting learning goals and adopting modifications as necessary; ensure each student's activities and lessons are differentiated and organized according to their abilities
  • Develop and teach lessons that provide engaging learning opportunities for small groups and individual students while meeting required specifications of IEPs and 504 plans.
  • Implement IEPs, provide ongoing or follow-up assessments, and continually track progress and make modifications as necessary.
  • Collaborate with related service providers to ensure each student's needs are met and plans are followed.
  • Collaborate and consult with the paraprofessional or co-teacher by co-planning, co-teaching, and co-assessing
  • Develop, complete, and maintain all paperwork mandated by local, state, and federal guidelines, laws, and regulations.
  • Maintain knowledge of special education teaching methods, research, and best practices through professional development and study.
  • Establish and enforce classroom management structure and rules that ensure the academic engagement and the physical and mental safety of all students.
  • Celebrate the achievements and successes of students.
  • Create an inclusive safe space where the joy of learning is evident and all students feel seen, valued, and are encouraged to embrace the uniqueness of themselves and others.
  • Other duties as assigned by the program lead.

Desired Education, Training, and Mindset:

  • A BA/BS degree in an applicable subject; Masters preferred.
  • Current DESE licensure in the appropriate grade level and content area.
  • Candidates who are close to licensure, who are eligible for licensure, or who have a different DESE license and are willing to pursue the appropriate licensure will be considered.
  • Two years minimum teaching experience; experience teaching students with disabilities preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Shore’s mission and objectives: that every person can grow, learn, and achieve goals that are meaningful to them.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan small group and individualized instruction.
  • Demonstrated belief in a structured, predictable and safe environment for children.
  • Willingness to absorb feedback, reflect, and adjust.
