CUIDANDO LOS NINOS is Hiring a Behavior Management Specialist Near Albuquerque, NM

Summary:

  • The Behavior Management Specialist will float between classrooms, providing individualized support to children to prevent and address ACEs through individual education plans and case conferencing with the Cuidando Los Niños team.
  • Provide one on one intervention with children experiencing dysregulation as a result of trauma for children ages 1-5 years of age.
  • All interventions are provided at the center.

Essential Duties:*
Behavioral Health Intervention

  • Provide behavior management interventions to pre-school children using a trauma informed approach aimed at helping to regulate children, develop relationships and use a suite of tools to address the unique need for each child.
  • Provide support to teachers in managing children’s behaviors.
  • In conjunction with the child development team, parent and supervisor develop a service plan to address goals and interventions for each child.
  • Communicate to Child Development Director daily regarding interventions provided for behaviors.
  • Meet w/ Direct Supervisor at a minimum of once per month, to review work performance and discuss any issues or concerns.
  • Attend training workshops and conferences that will benefit the agency or meet personal training needs. Sharing information learned with the agency as appropriate.
  • Float between classrooms, providing individualized support to children to prevent unmanageable behaviors in the classroom.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in planning schedules.
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and awareness when planning activities without stereotyping.
  • Utilizes community events, people, and planning into the daily activity plans.
  • Makes referrals for children who need them to the appropriate agency with the help of ACE’s Family and Community Liaison i.e. Early Intervention, Special Education, Therapy, CCSS etc.…

Teaching and learning

  • Completes daily documentation for all interventions provided.
  • Responds appropriately to children’s emotional needs and provides opportunities for all children to express their needs in a successful manner. (e.g. be nurturing, comforting, and acknowledging feelings.)
  • Comfortable being observed by teachers, directors, supervisors etc.

Teaching/Environment*

  • Introduce themes that emerge based on the interest of the children with a balance of child directed and teacher directed activities. Activities should have a stated objective and purpose for the children.
  • Provide space, time, and a wide variety of materials for children to create and recreate their individual works, help identify their feelings through dramatic play, drawing, telling stories and develop their personal solutions to problems with the help and guidance of a sensitive caregiver.
  • Validates children’s work by displaying it at child’s eye level and parent’s eye level in a tactful manner.
  • Anticipates safety issues and situations (e.g. sweeps sidewalks, floors, wipes up spills immediately, removes broken and hazardous toys, etc.)

Professional Development*

  • Complete 24 hours of training annually as required by CYFD.
  • Pursue a degree in social services.
  • Create a professional development plan annually with the direct supervisor.
  • Attend local, state, and/or national Conferences/trainings related to infant mental health, trauma interventions, impact of trauma, communication, etc.
  • Completes any training set forth by the BHI guidelines or scope of work.

Parent/Teacher*

  • Demonstrate awareness of each child’s family situation. Respect all parents.
  • Contribute ideas for Parent events and meetings.

Parent/Teacher Dialogue:*

  • Confidently relates to parents, uses careful judgment and confidentiality in dialogue about child. (Does not use other children’s names and does not talk about other families.)
  • Acknowledges and respectfully greets all parents and family members by name as they enter and exit the room.
  • Attends parent/teacher conferences.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent. Associate degree or higher in social services, behavioral studies, or related field preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention certificate of completion, preferred.
  • Have at least one year of experience working with low-income, homeless or at-risk populations.
  • Sensitivity to cultural, language, and socioeconomic differences
  • Be able to relate and communicate effectively with a broad, diverse population that includes fellow staff, parents, and children.
  • Be able to collaborate and work as a team member on behalf of the Agency and for the families.
  • Have interpersonal skills such as tact, warmth, and sensitivity.
  • Have administrative skills such as organization and attention to detail and be proficient in computer skills.
  • All employees must meet the New Mexico Childcare licensing requirements regarding criminal records background check, hold a valid driver’s license, have car insurance and be able to travel within the city limits.
  • Be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
