This Fleet Manager role is crucial to the success of LCRA's fleet team, ranked in the TOP 50 leading fleet teams in the country! You will be trusted to:
- Provide leadership and direction to staff. Hire, train, assign work, evaluate and manage performance, determine compensation of subordinate staff in compliance with human resources policies and handles all aspects of staff supervision. Maintain awareness of department issues and respond to employee needs and concerns. Connect with employees to ensure accurate and timely dissemination of information.
- For all sites and staff directly reporting to this position, develop strategic and operating plans, goals, objectives, priorities and procedures that are in alignment with the strategic goals and objectives of the department and LCRA.
- Assist in the development and management of assigned department maintenance budget. Ensure expenditures are appropriate and within approved budget.
- Provide technical oversight, coordination of work and resolution of issues for fleet services maintenance operations at multiple locations within our service areas.
- Responsible for providing subject matter expert (SME) input and recommendations to support annual enterprise lifecycle calculations, asset replacement planning, and budgeting processes for all assigned asset classes. Is also responsible for off-cycle repair vs replace and asset repurpose recommendations within assigned areas.
- Lead staff to evaluate and propose use of innovative technologies and new practices. Develop technical and leadership skills within department.
- Manage the development of work plans, job plans, and job durations and manage performance against plans.
- Work with parts department to ensure parts and equipment are ordered and delivered on time to ensure timely completion of projects and or repairs.
- Ensure that work is properly scheduled and coordinated at multiple service locations. Manage the transferring of work between service locations and or the dispatching of staff resources as needed to different locations.
- Provide quality assurance, training, and technical expertise on specialized and complex repairs on LCRA's vehicle and equipment fleet.
- Provide safety leadership ensuring safety procedures and policies are adhered to. Take initiative to ensure employees are working safely and receive required safety training by conducting monthly departmental safety meetings.
- Coordinate emergency response operations for assigned locations and serve as a main point of contact during emergency events. Provide timely updates to stakeholders and management regarding emergency response efforts and or repairs on critical assets.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on fleet maintenance, operations, and safety issues. Maintain industry knowledge and provides information to management regarding proposed legislation that could impact LCRA.
- Make recommendations to engineering concerning equipment layout, design improvements and maintenance requirements. Verify engineering drawings for operational integrity and accuracy.
- Assist with the development and administration for vendor provided services and contracts. Manage the quality and cost of vendor provided fleet maintenance and repairs.
- Oversee the development of bids and contracts for external fleet related customer-requested work. Review and approve customer invoices for completed customer projects.
- Communicate regularly with internal and external customers providing asset status and downtime updates for affected critical assets. Negotiate and resolve conflicts with customers in regard to customer-related work.
- Ensure appropriate processes, procedures and records are developed and maintained within the assigned area.
- Ensure adherence to LCRA's specifications, guidelines, Department of Transportation, state, federal and American National Standard Institute regulations for vehicle and equipment fleet maintenance and related activities.
- Represent the LCRA to customers and external stakeholder groups, particularly on topics that relate to fleet issues. May serve on various internal committees. Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers.
You qualify with:
- Twelve or more years of experience in large-scale fleet operations and maintenance or relevant experience. A degree(s) in engineering, business or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.
