Director, Diversity & Inclusion
Stevenson UniversitySummary:
Reporting to the Vice President of Student Affairs, the Director, Diversity and Inclusion will bring vision, enthusiasm, and collaboration to the Student Affairs division to support a diverse student body and further develop a welcoming, affirming, and sustaining co-curricular program at Stevenson University. The Director will lead and direct the activities of the Center for Diversity and Inclusion, advising student organizations, developing and implementing programming, hiring and supervising a team of student workers, and managing budget. Collaboration and relationships with professional colleagues, students and student organizations will be essential for the success of this role.

Education/Experience:
Masters degree plus three to five years of related experience in higher education or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, cultural competency, and intercultural development within a higher education setting
  • Ability to create a welcoming space for people from diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated understanding and appreciation for all aspects of diversity and inclusion including, but not limited to, race, ethnicity, ability, class, age, learning differences, political perspectives, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, and religious expression.
  • Excellent leadership and supervisory skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently, identify creative solutions to solve problems, work collaboratively in teams, and effectively manage frequent changes in work assignments.
  • Ability to think intentionally and strategically, be highly collaborative, excellent with implementation and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to represent the Center of Diversity and Inclusion professionally and bring both professionalism and efficiency to the position and the Center.
  • Ability to implement change and develop a culture of continual improvement and assessment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, O365, and Teams, as well as knowledge of Colleague or a similar student information system.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends regularly.
  • Ability to travel between campuses.
Physical Requirements:
Light Work: Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Requires physical abilities consistent with a busy office environment on a university campus. Requires ability to speak for extended periods of time, lift/move boxes, standing, keyboarding, walking, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Daily work with computers, monitors, copy machines and other office equipment. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
Essential Functions:
OVERVIEW:
  • Serve as a trusted and knowledgeable advisor, advocate, and resource to advance strategies for diversity and inclusion for the Stevenson community.
  • Develop and conduct workshops, retreats, conferences, and campus-wide events that strengthen and highlight Stevenson Universitys commitment to diversity and inclusion core values.
  • Provide oversight, support, and training to student organizations and their leaders.
  • Establish and maintain local and national networks to stay informed of best practices.
  • Represent the University at various off campus functions and conferences.
  • Research best practices in diversity initiatives and incorporate those findings into actionable plans for the university community.
PROGRAM MANAGEMENT: 40%
  • Develop and coordinate history and heritage month events.
  • Implement, execute, and evaluate regular programming in the Center.
  • Communicate and collaborate regularly with members of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee to establish academic and cultural programming and presentations that will contribute to university life.
SUPERVISION & HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT: 20%
  • Provide advice and guidance for multicultural groups and clubs: specifically, BSU, ALLURE Models, MSA, JSA, and ASU.
  • Supervise student workers and the CDI Student Advisory Board.
  • Supervise Service Scholars, Interns, and Volunteers serving CDI.
ADMINISTRATIVE & BUDGETARY RESPONISIBILITIES: 25%
  • Conduct and report regular assessment of programs, trainings, and other CDI initiatives.
  • Compile monthly and annual reports of diversity initiatives.
  • Manage and prepare the department operating budget.
  • Manage the CDI Listserv.
  • Produce and disseminate CDI Newsletter.
TRAININGS & WORKSHOPS: 10%
  • Foster and support the intellectual, social, and cultural development of all students, to enhance understanding of diverse identities and intersectionality.
  • Provide diversity, equity, inclusion and justice related trainings and workshops for student leaders, student clubs and organizations, and as requested by individual departments or groups.
  • Manage the Winning Together Initiative in collaboration with Stevenson Athletics.
  • Schedule, manage, and evaluate Safe Space and LGBTQ Ally Trainings.
COMMITTEE WORK: 5%
  • Serve as a member of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee and the D&I Working Group to cultivate a vision and integrated programs that enhance and contribute to the achievement of the Universitys diversity and inclusion strategic goals and objectives.
  • Serve as a member of the Title IX Committee, who will respond to reports of discrimination, bias and Title IX complaints, as assigned. The incumbent will serve as a co-investigator to conduct investigations of complaints.
  • Serve as a member of the Arts Alive! Committee.
  • Serve as a liaison to the Alumni Board & Athletics D&I Task Force.
