This is a part-time position to assist with the City's programs and activities and will involve working variable hours (approximately up to 28 hours per week) including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
Summary Description: Under supervision, the Recreation Leader will promote, organize and provide personal leadership to a variety of recreation activities at an indoor and/or outdoor recreational facility.
Essential Functions

  • Organize, plan and implement a diversified program including sports, crafts, active and passive games on a park or playground setting.
  • Requisition, issue, receive and oversee the use of equipment and materials.
  • Ensure safety precautions are observed during free play.
  • Care for and maintain equipment and facilities.
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of special events and services.
  • Assist with the implementation of the sports program.
  • Maintain effective communication and harmonious relationships with the public, participants and associates.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualification Guidelines
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of organizing and planning recreation activities.
  • Knowledge of modern recreational philosophies and practices as it relates to sports, special activities and play.
  • Enjoy working with people of all ages.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational abilities.
  • Knowledge of facility management & procedure.
  • Flexible and can easily adapt to changes and work schedules.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationship with staff and other department representatives.
EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/EDUCATION:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
  • One (1) year of increasingly responsible experience in providing recreation and leisure time services.
  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. College course work in the field of Recreation, Physical Education or related field is desired.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to work in a standard office environment requiring prolonged sitting, standing, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, crouching and stooping in the performance of daily activities. May require constant walking, standing (including on concrete or uneven ground), climbing and exercising full range of motion of the arms, hands, wrists and fingers.
  • Occasional pushing, pulling, dragging and lifting equipment and/or office items weighing 25 lbs.
  • Ability to hear and convey detailed or important instructions or information verbally and accurately.
  • Average visual acuity to prepare and read documents.
  • Ability to communicate with both the public and co-workers in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to travel to different sites and locations.
  • Ability to endure exposure to outdoor conditions and inclement weather.

Below is a list of key benefits offered to part-time, seasonal, and limited service employees of the City of Stanton and is only a summary of benefits. They are not intended to replace or modify the legal plan documents on file in the Human Resources Department.
SALARY RANGE: Composed of six (6) steps - Entry step through E step (Except management positions). Each step represents an increase of approximately five (5) percent.
RETIREMENT: Provided through deferred compensation 457 plan administered by Public Agency Retirement Services (PARS). Employee pays member contribution of 7.5%.
SICK LEAVE: 4 hours per month.
VACATION: 4 hours per month after 1 year of employment.
HOLIDAY PAY: 5 hours for each observed holiday after 1 year of employment.
DISCRETIONARY BENEFIT: $23.08 per pay period after 1 year of employment
EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM: Available to all City employees and their immediate families.
