Job Summary:
The Department of Environmental Services at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Director of Environment Services/TH Senior Staff Associate.
The Director is responsible for the planning, organization, development and direction of the department. All department functions and operations must be managed and achieved in accordance with all federal, New York State, local standards and guidelines, and all other applicable regulatory standards, to ensure the highest degree of quality patient care is maintained at all times.
The successful candidate will:

• Provide strong leadership to the Environmental Services department, including hiring, training, and supervising staff.
• Lead the department in fulfilling all goals and objectives within budget, with quality of schedule.
• Evaluate safe work practices; performs regular inspections of patient, public and private areas.
• Actively partners with various key management staff to ensure a clean, safe and comfortable environment.
• Chairs the Hazardous Materials subcommittee of the EOC.
• Develops and maintains written policies and procedures for the department as well as standardized cleaning schedules for all assigned areas.
• Seeks out new methods and principles to improve departmental functions.
• Works closely with Nursing and Bed Management and other appropriate departments.
• Directs the responsible care/use of supplies, equipment, etc. and maintains or improves the appearance of all patient, public, and private areas, and performs regular inspection of these areas for sanitation, order, safety and proper performance.
• Demonstrates and fosters the components of the Principles of Behavior.
• Coordinates department activities with all other hospital departments.
• Serves as the department representative of various hospital committees and submits reports as required.
• Performs other job duties and projects as directed.
• Assures all department staff follows established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies at all times.

Required Qualifications:

• 10 years of work experience in Environmental Services in a hospital-related setting
• 7 years of proven experience in a Director, or Managerial level in an institution of similar size and complexity as Downstate Health Sciences

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficiency in using computer applications and software for data analysis, budgeting, and reporting, such as PM software and EVS software systems

Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday; 8:00am to 4:30pm
