Carlow University is Hiring a Director of Campus Ministry Near Pittsburgh, PA

Carlow University is now accepting application for the position of Campus Minister. The Campus Minister provides leadership for and actively contributes to the ongoing development, expression and reflection on the University’s Catholic heritage and culture in concert with and support of the Mission and Values of the University. The Campus Minister is responsible for the oversight and development of opportunities to assist members of the university community (students, faculty and staff) in their spiritual growth and development, primarily through the sacramental and liturgical life of the campus community, and other faith-related programmatic offerings.
The Campus Minister provides pastoral care and spiritual guidance to members of the university community as needed and in service to the spiritual health and growth of the individual and the university community. The Campus Minister collaborates with a wide-range of university personnel and academic and co-curricular departments in order to enhance the overall educational experience of Carlow University students, and with the other Catholic Universities in our area and with Campus Ministers in The Conference For Mercy Higher Education.
Responsibilities:
Mission and Vision
  • Active participation in and contribution to university meetings, processes, activities and events related to ongoing reflection and appropriation of the Mission and Values of the University.
  • Work collaboratively with the Special Assistant to the President for Mercy Heritage to tend to the ongoing development of a Catholic and Mercy culture at Carlow.
  • Participate in orientation programs for new students and employees of the University.
  • Advise and provide University departments, groups and personnel with resources and information related to the University’s Catholic heritage and culture as needed and/or requested.
  • Serve on ad hoc committees or groups whose work would benefit from or requires insights from the University’s Catholic tradition.
Spiritual Growth and Development
  • Work collaboratively with diocesan offices and clergy of St. Paul Cathedral and neighboring parishes and ministries to provide for the sacramental life of campus.
  • Plan and oversee all liturgical events and celebrations on campus, collaborating with appropriate personnel and departments as needed.
  • Provide and/or oversee spiritual development, faith formation, worship opportunities and pastoral care in the Catholic tradition for the University community collaborating with University departments and personnel, as well as other Catholic colleges, universities and campus ministries.
  • Provide information, resources, referrals to appropriate faith formation, spiritual development, worship opportunities and pastoral care for students of all religious denominations, providing opportunities to learn one another's beliefs and traditions
  • Collaborate with co-curricular departments and personnel in providing and supporting the social dimension of students’ university experience.
Pastoral Care
  • Provide a spiritual/pastoral presence as needed at University functions, events and activities.
  • Respond to the pastoral needs of members of the University community as needed and/or appropriate and in service to the spiritual health and wellbeing of the University community.
  • Provide opportunities for members of the University community to reflect both personally and communally on their experience in light of the University’s Catholic and Mercy heritage.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Develop and oversee department budget.
  • Represent Carlow University to diocesan, regional and national campus ministry gatherings and groups.
  • Maintain and oversee of McAuley Chapel (includes sacristy) and its use by members of the University community
  • Maintain the campus ministry section of the university’s website (www.ministry.carlow.edu).
  • Maintain Chapel supplies, linens, and vestments
  • Hire and supervise work study students as needed and available.
Required experience, skills, knowledge:
  • Demonstrate awareness and appreciation of the Catholic faith and respect for other religious traditions.
  • Demonstrate understanding of and appreciation for Catholic higher education the Catholic intellectual tradition and Catholic social teaching.
  • 3-5 years of demonstrated experience of relating well and working collaboratively with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff and administrators in higher education.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer application skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekendss
  • Master’s degree in theology, ministry or related field.
  • Catholic Campus Ministry Association (CCMA) Certification (or ability to achieve certification within 2 years).
  • Creativity in programming
  • Enthusiasm and energy for working with college age students
