St. Louis County is seeking a highly qualified professional to serve as Deputy County Administrator. This position serves as a principal assistant to the County Administrator in the management of county operations, agenda management, governance and policy development, budget oversight and planning, as well as managing assigned staff and functions.The salary range reflected above is the normal hiring range. The full salary range, including longevity pay, is $141,960 - $194,334 per year.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
THE ORGANIZATION: St. Louis County is governed by a seven-member elected Board of Commissioners. County operations are managed by a Board-appointed County Administrator. The Deputy County Administrator is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the County Administrator as part of the authority delegated to the Administrator by the Board. St. Louis County has approximately 1,850 employees across 14 departments and operates with a 2024 budget of $491 million.THE POSITION: The Deputy County Administrator provides strategic leadership and direction supporting the County Administrator in implementing County Board actions, coordinating departmental functions, and administering county operations. Duties include overseeing budget development for the county; managing development of agendas for Committee of the Whole and Board workshop meetings; making recommendations on policies, new management approaches, and strategies, and developing more effective methods of delivering county services. Duties also include managing and supervising assigned functions and staff within the Department. The work is performed under broad policy guidance and direction from the County Administrator with extensive latitude for operational and managerial decision-making.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Pass/Fail): Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in public administration, public policy, business administration, management, planning or related field, AND three years of full-time paid progressively responsible experience in public administration, public sector budgets, organizational management, or a related field; ORGraduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in public administration, public policy, business administration, management, planning, accounting or related field, AND five years of full-time progressively responsible paid experience in public administration, public sector budgets, organizational management, or a related public administration field; ORAn equivalent combination of education and experience at a senior level of an organization of comparable size and complexity to St. Louis County as determined by the director of human resources.Please Note: When answering the supplemental questions on the website, the webpage will time out after 30 minutes.
