New England Jewish Academy, an ECC-12th grade school in West Hartford, CT is looking for a full time Director of Teaching and Learning, a key position that answers directly to the Head of School. We are a close-knit group of educators who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of our students. We are looking for someone who is patient, caring, and has a love for education.
The Director of Teaching and Learning is responsible for maintaining academic standards, general and Judaic studies, K-12, prioritizing the Lower School. The Director models and acts in alignment with NEJAs mission, vision and core values. The ideal candidate is a team player with strong interpersonal skills, who is committed to helping build a strong school that empowers all students with the academic, character, and life skills they need to succeed, and partners with teachers to support teaching and learning. We seek a Director who is committed to work with determination, integrity and purpose. All responsibilities will be carried out in coordination with and under the supervision of the Head of School.
Responsibilities:
The Director of Teaching and Learning will:
oCoordinate and lead all school improvement efforts
oReview curriculum and oversee execution
oSupport differentiation in all classes
oPlan and deliver K-12 professional development activities
oCoordinate student placements
oCompile and submit required state and federal reporting
oArrange mentoring for new teachers, as required
oSupervise and evaluate teachers
oOversee exam schedules and create midterm schedules
oFacilitate and oversee execution of school learning-related policies
oParticipate in hiring new staff
oReview report cards each quarter
oReview exams and teacher materials
oOversee learning center and participate in all IEP meetings
oParticipate in administrative meetings
oParticipate in grade meetings
oParticipate in new student recruiting process
oPerform other duties as assigned by the Head of School
Qualifications:
Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience.
Knowledge of current and best practices in the assigned areas, including curriculum, instruction and assessment.
Have a broad background in both general and Judaic studies.
Ability to coach and lead professional development.
Ability to utilize, analyze and interpret data for decision making.
Communicates effectively, proactively, and respectfully with all stakeholders.
Ability to work collaboratively with other faculty to move the school forward.
Previous supervisory and/or administrative experience.
Represents the schools mission and core values while demonstrating integrity, accountability, sincerity, patience, flexibility and humility.
Exceptional writing, interpersonal, communication and leadership skills.
Graduate degree in a related field.
