UNC Health Appalachian is Hiring a Med-Surg Nurse Assistant I Near Boone, NC

About the Role

We are currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to join our team on a part-time basis in the Medical-Surgical (Med-Surg) unit at Watauga Medical Center. The Med-Surg CNA plays a vital role in providing direct patient care and support to individuals admitted to the hospital for medical and surgical treatment. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to patient-centered care, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities include:

  1. Provide direct patient care under the supervision of registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical nurses (LPNs) in the Medical-Surgical unit.
  2. Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and ambulation.
  3. Take and record vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
  4. Assist with patient transfers, positioning, and turning to prevent pressure ulcers and promote comfort.
  5. Serve and collect meal trays, assist with feeding as needed, and ensure patients' nutritional needs are met.
  6. Perform routine patient care tasks, such as emptying Foley catheters, changing bed linens, and maintaining a clean and organized patient environment.
  7. Observe and report changes in patients' condition or behavior to the nursing staff promptly.
  8. Assist with patient admission, discharge, and transportation as necessary.
  9. Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families during hospitalization.
  10. Adhere to infection control protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements at all times.
  11. Document patient care activities accurately and timely in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  12. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, in-service education programs, and quality improvement initiatives.

Compensation is commensurate with education and experience. Hiring compensation ranges from $16.00-$23.20 per hour. 


Requirements:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Current certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the state of North Carolina.
  3. Previous experience working as a CNA in a medical-surgical or acute care setting preferred.
  4. Basic understanding of medical terminology and patient care principles.
  5. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.
  6. Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  7. Compassionate demeanor and a commitment to providing patient-centered care.
  8. Flexibility to work a part-time schedule, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
  9. BLS certification required and issued by the American Heart Association.
  10. Willingness to undergo background checks and drug screening as part of the hiring process.
