UNC Health Appalachian is Hiring a Clinic Receptionist, Urology Near Boone, NC

About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Clinic Receptionist to join our team and serve as the first point of contact for patients at App Urology. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, and a compassionate attitude towards patient care. As a Clinic Receptionist, you will be responsible for managing front desk operations, scheduling appointments, and providing administrative support to ensure smooth clinic operations. Responsibilities include:
  1. Greet and welcome patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
  2. Answer phone calls, emails, and other inquiries promptly and courteously.
  3. Schedule patient appointments efficiently, considering physician availability and patient preferences.
  4. Verify patient demographics and insurance information accurately during registration.
  5. Collect co-payments, deductibles, and outstanding balances at the time of service.
  6. Maintain patient records and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information.
  7. Coordinate with medical staff to ensure timely patient flow and address scheduling conflicts.
  8. Assist patients with filling out forms, providing instructions, and addressing concerns.
  9. Manage electronic health record (EHR) systems and other software applications effectively.
  10. Perform clerical duties such as filing, scanning, and organizing documents as needed.
  11. Collaborate with other team members to maintain a clean and organized reception area.
  12. Adhere to company policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines at all times.

This position is non-exempt and benefits eligible after a 60-day waiting period.
What You Need
Minimum Education
  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred, but not required.
Experience
  • 1 year of prior experience in a medical or clinic setting is preferred.
Required Registration/License/Certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association is preferred, but not required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency in medical terminology and administrative skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of privacy regulations, such as HIPAA.
  • Strong computer proficiency and organizational abilities.
  • Adaptability, attention to detail, and effective time management.
Physical Demands
  • Sitting: The role primarily involves sitting for extended periods while performing administrative tasks at a computer workstation or front desk.

  • Standing: Occasional standing may be required when assisting patients at the reception area or providing directions.

  • Lifting: Minimal lifting may be necessary when handling files or office supplies.

  • Keyboard Use: Regular use of a computer keyboard for data entry and documentation.

  • Vision: Good visual acuity for reading patient information, documents, and computer screens.

Working Conditions
  • Indoor Environment: The clinic receptionist works indoors in a climate-controlled office environment.

  • Interaction: Regular interaction with patients, families, healthcare professionals, and colleagues.

  • Noise Level: The work environment may include moderate levels of noise related to patient and staff interactions.

  • Schedule: Typically follows regular business hours, but may include occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays based on clinic needs.

  • Safety: Adherence to safety and infection control protocols is essential to maintain a safe work environment.
