Work Location: On-Site, 2 schedule options available:

Option 1: Monday / Wednesday / Friday (must be able to work up to 32 hours per week for cross-coverage as necessary)

Option 2: Tuesday / Thursday (must be able to work up to 24hours per week for cross-coverage as necessary)

Short Description/Overview:

The part-time Licensed Vocational Nurse is responsible for assisting the clinical team during pre- and post-procedure activities. Gathers pre-treatment patient data, maintains prescription drug logs under the supervision of the Registered Nurse or Physician, monitors patients post-procedure, assists in overall patient care.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Job Duties:

In this position, you will be responsible for the following duties (among others):

  • Provide required ongoing patient information to the interventionist and clinical team during pre- and post-procedures activities to deliver vascular access care to the patient.
  • Maintain radiation safety when C-Arm is in use in the procedure room
  • Assist in procedure room preparation, maintain sterile techniques in the procedure room, assist with pre-and post-procedures including assessment and discharge
  • Assist in recovery room patient care following vascular access procedures
  • Gather patient clinical information prior to procedures including patient assessments and patient history for Physician review
  • Keep clear and accurate patient medical records
  • Maintain up-to-date narcotic drug log under the supervision of the Registered Nurse
  • Serve as surgical technologist during procedures as necessary
  • Assist in maintaining inventory count
  • Communicate with dialysis facilities to monitor post-care as directed by Manager
  • Observe all OSHA and radiation safety monitoring policies
  • Assist in moving patients within the center
  • Assist in scheduling patients, as needed
  • Participate in access center community education activities and programs
  • Other duties required to adequately fulfill the duties of your position include
    • Work overtime with little or no notice as needed
    • Attend team meetings, phone conferences, and training as needed
    • Know, understand, and follow company guidelines, policies and procedures policies
    • Know, understand, and comply with all clinical and business policies and procedures
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Certificate of completion of licensed state Practical or Vocational Nurse program accredited within the state of issue
  • Current state LPN or LVN license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Proficiency with computer applications and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records system

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years' clinical nursing experience in dialysis, critical care or medical/surgical
  • Experience using EPIC electronic medical record system
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Required Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Must have ability to work both independently and effectively as part of a team
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Pay Range:

$32.00/hour and up, depending on experience

  • Travel to other sites located within San Diego County may be required

Physical Demands

Physical requirements may vary slightly and should be reviewed with your manger. In general, this position requires the ability to lift up to 35 pounds unassisted; ability to stand for extended periods of time and to perform repetitive stooping, walking, stretching, reaching and some sitting; ability to use full range of body motions required to lift patients, wear a lead apron, and lift and move supplies.

Work Environment

Job required tasks routinely involve a potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, tissues or potential spills or splashes. Use of appropriate personal protection measures is required for every healthcare provider in these positions. Require to routinely use standard office equipment such as laptop, computer, mouse, and photocopier.

Beginning in 1973, Balboa has grown from two physicians to a comprehensive nephrology team of 52 board certified physicians and 8 advanced practitioners. On January 1, 2018, Balboa Nephrology Medical Group (BNMG) launched Balboa United, a full-service medical practice management services organization. From one small office, BNMG now has 24 clinical offices throughout San Diego, Imperial, Orange and Riverside counties. In addition to office and hospital-based patient care, Balboa physicians manage the dialysis treatments of approximately 4,500 patients at 88 dialysis centers and conduct Nephrology based clinical research at 6 centers throughout Imperial and San Diego counties (California Institute of Renal Research).
