Roots Through Recovery is a trauma-focused outpatient treatment center for adults and adolescents in Long Beach, CA. We have proudly served the Long Beach community since 2016.
We offer dedicated morning and afternoon tracks for primary mental health, primary substance abuse and chronic pain, provided by an experienced and compassionate clinical team of physicians, clinical psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, drug and alcohol counselors and integrated wellness practitioners.
Our program integrates EMDR, mindfulness, and other cognitive, process, experiential, and expressive therapies, to address the mind, body and spirit. The goal of this approach is to address unresolved trauma, expose our clients to a variety of tools, and help them to develop the skills needed to live a healthy, productive and fulfilling life in recovery. Roots is seeking a part-time Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to join our growing team!
Summary:
As a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, you will be a vital member of the healthcare team, providing compassionate and evidence-based care to individuals with substance use, mental health and co-occurring disorders. Your primary role will be to conduct psychiatric evaluations and follow-up appointments, medication management, diagnostic interviewing, and treatment planning, all with the aim of promoting holistic wellness and recovery.
Your specialized knowledge of psychiatric disorders and medication management will enable you to provide comprehensive care to individuals in need. Through careful evaluation and assessment, you will help to establish accurate diagnoses, develop appropriate treatment plans, and monitor progress towards treatment goals. Your commitment to staying informed of advances in psychiatric care and treatment strategies will ensure that the care you offer is current, evidence based, and effective.
Collaboration with other members of the healthcare team will also be an integral part of your role. You will work closely with physicians, therapists, and other allied healthcare professionals to ensure that all aspects of a patient's care are coordinated and aligned with their individual needs and goals. Your compassionate and attentive approach to patient care will allow you to build relationships based on trust and respect, providing patients with the support they need to navigate the complexities of mental illness.
We are seeking a part-time BS-PMHNP to join our team starting at 2 days per week, with room to grow.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Including, but not limited to, the following described duties - reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations to assess the mental health status, formulate accurate diagnoses, and develop individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient's unique needs.
  • Collaborate with patients, their families, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to establish therapeutic relationships and create a supportive and empowering environment for patients experiencing mental illness or psychiatric disorders.
  • Provide medication management services, including prescribing, monitoring, and adjusting psychotropic medications, in accordance with evidence-based guidelines and patients' treatment goals.
  • Monitor patients for treatment response, medication side effects, and potential medication interactions, making necessary adjustments to treatment plans to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Provide psychoeducation to patients and their families, offering information about mental illnesses, treatment options, and strategies for coping and self-management.
  • Collaborate with therapists, social workers, and other mental health professionals to coordinate care, ensure continuity of treatment, and facilitate a holistic approach to patient care.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of patients' mental health status, treatment progress, and overall functioning to evaluate treatment effectiveness and make appropriate adjustments to the treatment plan.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical documentation, including progress notes, treatment plans, and medication records, in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Stay abreast of current research, developments, and advancements in psychiatric care through ongoing professional development and engagement in evidence-based practices.
  • Cultivate a therapeutic and empathetic environment by demonstrating active listening, empathy, and compassionate care, fostering a trusting relationship with patients and facilitating their journey towards recovery.
Education:
Successful completion of a course of study and attainment of a master's degree in psychiatric/mental health nursing; and complete two (2) years of supervised clinical experience in providing psychiatric/mental health counseling services.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Must possess a current and unrestricted Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in California;
  • Must have or be able to obtain, and maintain, current CPR certification by an approved certifying organization; and –
  • Must have a valid California Driver’s License (or valid out-of-state license and be able to obtain a California Driver’s License), valid automobile insurance, a satisfactory driving record, and meet all requirements of the company’s insurance policies.
Professional Experience:
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, working with diverse populations dealing with mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Proven track record of success in psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic interviews, medication management and treatment planning;
  • Demonstrated experience in the following areas:
    • Psychopharmacology;
    • Psychiatric Assessment and Diagnosis;
    • Therapeutic interventions;
    • Collaboration and interdisciplinary care;
    • Cultural sensitivity and diversity;
    • Ethical and legal considerations;
    • Health promotion and disease prevention;
    • Safety and crisis management;
    • Electronic Health Record Systems;
    • Clinical decision making;
    • Patient care;
    • Case collaboration with families, providers, and sober livings;
    • Completing insurance charting and clinical documentation; and –
    • Motivational interviewing.
