About Young Community Developers

Established in 1973, YCD is a nonprofit organization who serves residents of all ages living in the most historically underserved communities of San Francisco. YCD takes a holistic approach via a delivery eco-system of services designed to empower residents in achieving economic mobility, in turn building and sustaining a positive community by providing them with education opportunities, workforce development training, and social services. Each year YCD provides around 1,200 community members with employment and training services through their programs and partnerships. Project Overview

100% College Prep Institute, is a college preparatory organization for middle school, high school, and college youth. 100% seeks to provide low-income students of color who do not see college as an option with academic and leadership skills and support that prepares them to enter and complete post-secondary educational opportunities. We employ a holistic approach that teams our staff with students, teachers, counselors, and parents in order to set and achieve academic goals, and a plan for college.

Get Caught Reading(GCR) is a summer literacy program designed to help youth ages 8-12 develop strong literacy and writing skills, GCR partners with several youth serving organizations in the Bayview to pair near peer coaches (trained high-school and college students) with these youth to work in small groups at participating summer camp programs. This program takes May 28th, 2024 - Aug 2nd, 2024. 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Summer Literacy Coach will work with a small group of school aged children to provide direct instruction and fluency support in reading and writing at selected summer programs in the Bayview Hunters Point. This is a summer position with potential for other opportunities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Deliver literacy and writing instruction

  • Support students in setting and meeting literacy goals

  • Plan fun and engaging literacy and writing activities

  • Maintain notes and submit reports that capture all work done on activities with the student(s)

  • Other duties as assigned

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

A successful candidate will possess:

  • College or high school students interested in education or working in youth development.

  • Strong reading and writing skills.

  • Experience working with children ages 8-12.

  • Must pass a Department of Justice Criminal Background Check.

  • Patient, creative, and fun loving.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written communications, patience, diplomacy, and high level of customer service skills.

  • Ability to think critically, problem solve and be resourceful.

  • Embraces cultural differences and is willing to foster diversity, equity and inclusion.

  • Self-motivated individual who has a passion to ensure that program goals, objectives and tasks are completed in a timely fashion and exceeds standards.

  • Must have proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong commitment to the mission of Young Community Developers Inc. and to individuals from diverse populations.

  • Demonstrate competency with using Microsoft Office Suite, Google platform, Zoom and other technology platforms.

LOCATION:San Francisco, CA

JOB TYPE:Part Time – Non-exempt 

COMPENSATION: $20.00-$22.00/hour

SCHEDULE:Monday - Friday 10:00am to 4:00pm
