Position Summary
Are you passionate about Culinary and Baking? Have you created, built, or contributed to the growth of employee and students resulting in them achieving their goals? As a Chef Instructor, you will be responsible for being a key member of the team that Culinary Arts Program to further the education of students. In this role, you will work closely with instructors, students, and the Dean.

Please note that Seattle Colleges is working under hybrid remote and on-site operations, pending public health guidance and business needs. Per Governor Inslee's Proclamation 21-14.1, employees of higher education and healthcare institutions must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 no later than October 18, 2021, unless a medical or religious exemption is approved. Being fully vaccinated means that an individual is at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. This is an on-campus, in-person role with some options for occasional remote work.
What you will be working on:
  • An intermediate culinary arts/pastry instructor requires good communication and culinary skills. The desired candidate will have knowledge in the preparations and production of culinary/pastry/baking products.
  • Organize practical and technical instruction and lectures on theory, techniques, and terminology not limited to subject areas such as hand tools, production equipment, codes and regulations, and safety and sanitation.
  • Plan and direct work of students in various settings to demonstrate competencies outlined in the curriculum.
  • Measure and assess course outcomes, program outcomes, and South Seattle College Student Learning Outcomes as listed on the official course outlines of record.
  • Works with full time faculty with grades examinations and lab competencies in a timely manner.
  • Comply and enforce sanitation principles and policies as defined by current state health department codes, as well as uphold the Culinary Arts program's Policy and Standards regarding attendance, dress code, and personal appearance policies.
  • Instruct aspiring culinary/baking students to find their culinary voice.
  • Conduct in-classroom demonstrations as required by curriculum.
  • Demonstrate techniques and concepts as required by the curriculum.
  • Deliver clear, concise, and organized lectures
  • Instruct students in hands-on labs learning the fundaments of culinary and baking arts.
  • Maintain a positive and focused learning environment.
  • Assure classes are conducted in a manner that complies with principles of food safety and sanitation.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance.
  • Attend meetings and faculty orientation as required.
What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)
  • Prior experience in culinary arts and pastry/ baking required.
  • Must have a King County Food Handlers Card
  • Not required by recommended a MAST Card
  • At least three years of experience in the field/trade
  • Education and/or training in the field and/or teaching in the field
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation, the ability to work well with others.
  • The ability to work with a widely diverse student community.
  • Knowledge of the theory, as well as hands on basics and intermediate techniques of culinary arts cooking, pastry, and baking.
  • The ability to collaborate with fellow faculty and administrators.
