Job Summary:
The Project Accountant serves to perform day-to-day core project accounting functions within job-cost Deltek accounting system, including Project Initiation, Project Monitoring/Budgeting, Project Billing, Project Accruals, Accounts Payable (“A/P”) and Accounts Receivable (“A/R”) management, monthly close, preparation of financial statements as needed, internal/external reporting, and other ad-hoc tasks.
In this role, you will
- Project Set-ups: Upon award of new projects, review Contracts and Proposals, support Project Managers is the development Project Start-up Sheets, and set-up projects in accounting system with appropriate billing rate tables.
- Project Budgeting: Provide ad-hoc support to Project Managers in budgeting, billing projections, and financial analysis.
- Contract Folder Administration: Maintain contract documents, including modifications, in electronic and hard-copy folders.
- Project Billing: Work with Project Managers on a monthly basis to process invoices in accordance with contract requirements and billing instructions. Review monthly project detail to ensure appropriateness of billable cost.
- A/P Support: Work with Project Managers and other approvers for correct coding and entry of A/P invoices. Perform monthly reconciliations of payments and process journal entries. Set up vendors in the accounting system, review vendor set-ups, and collect W-9s tax information and other supporting documentation as needed.
- A/R Support: Assist/prepare customer billings and project accruals management.
- Reporting and Analysis: Prepare and analyze financial and operational reports; prepare reports required by management, regulatory agencies, and other external parties.
- Audit Support: Support year-end and ad-hoc audits. Prepare supporting schedules and documentation.
- ERP SME: Become a subject matter expert (SME) in the company’s ERP system.
- Process Improvement: Continually work to identify and implement more efficient procedures and use of resources to improve workflow while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Other Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned by management, e.g. supporting JV tax schedules, office administrative tasks.
You will be a great fit if:
- You have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required).
- You have 0-3 years of relevant job experience consistent with the duties described.
- You have Job Cost Accounting experience
- You have Accounting, Contracting, or Project billing experience for the Federal Government
- You are knowledge and understanding of US GAAP and compliance preferred. Awareness of recent pronouncements and cost accounting is a plus.
- You have experience working with Deltek accounting software. Vantagepoint a plus.
