Job description

Community Counseling and Mediation is seeking 10 to 15 Seasonal Group Leaders for one of After-School programs based in PS 238. The start date is July 1st, 2024 and the date is August 20th, 2024. Candidate must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as strong classroom management skills. The candidate must have experience developing and implementing curricula for elementary or middle school youth.

The Group Leader will organize Lead Job Readiness, College Prep, and Educational Counseling. The group leader will work closely with participants to encourage the next steps after high school, and creatively develop a College prep course to help guide students into making the best decisions for their future.

Qualifications

Candidate must possess

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as strong classroom management skills.
• Experience developing and implementing curriculum for school youth.
• A high school diploma.
• All Group leaders must be fingerprinted and proven to be free of any criminal convictions before being hired.

Duties

As a Group Leader, you will oversee and manage a group of students in an educational setting. Your duties will include:

• Creating and implementing age-appropriate activities and lesson plans
• Providing guidance and supervision to students
• Assisting with homework and educational assignments
• Promoting positive behavior and enforcing discipline when necessary
• Monitoring the safety and well-being of students at all times
• Collaborating with other staff members to ensure a smooth and efficient operation
• Communicating with parents/guardians regarding student progress and any concerns

Skills

To excel in this role, you should possess the following skills:

• Experience working with students in a daycare, childcare, or educational setting
• Knowledge of early childhood education principles and practices
• Ability to educate and engage students in various subjects and activities
• Familiarity with Christian counseling principles (if applicable)
• First aid certification or willingness to obtain one
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to multitask and handle challenging situations with patience and professionalism
• Previous experience in babysitting, childhood development, or sports coaching is a plus
