QUALIFICATIONS: Current appropriate Minnesota teaching license required: K-12 license, Adult Education Teaching License or a person who has a bachelor’s or master’s degree in English as a second language, applied linguistics or bilingual education.
DECRIPTION: Teach 14 hours a week in the jail and 4-6 hours a week teaching an online ESL level 3-4 class.
JOB SUMMARY:

• Provide sequential ESL instruction based on Basic English Language and CASAS competencies for intermediate ESL learners
• Monitor student level changes and test schedules; refer students to post-testing as needed
• Provide GED instruction to students in the jail
• Provide employability skills to students in the jail
• Provide ABE instruction: reading, writing and math to students in the jail

Required Skills:
Prior successful experience in urban, multicultural education desirable.
Demonstrates continued professional development through course work, research, peer collaboration, and/or job-embedded staff development.
Working knowledge of the subject matter, classroom management techniques, current researched best practices and strategies, as well as students' learning styles and needs, both academic and affective.
