WORK DAY/YEAR: Part-time; about 14 hours per week; Adult Literacy Teacher position; See additional information below
165 days per year - includes 9 weeks of summer classes:
- September - May: Monday - Thursday
- June through 1st week of August: Monday - Wednesday; no classes for 3 weeks in August
Class schedules at the jail have not yet been determined; however, classes will be held both in the morning and in the afternoon.
The online class is from 4:00-6:00 p.m., 2 days a week, and may increase to 3 days a week.
REPORTS TO: Building Administrator

SALARY: Based on level of education and full years of licensed teaching experience.

QUALIFICATIONS: Current appropriate Minnesota teaching license required: K-12 license, Adult Education Teaching License or a person who has a bachelor’s or master’s degree in English as a second language, applied linguistics or bilingual education.
DECRIPTION: Teach 14 hours a week in the jail and 4-6 hours a week teaching an online ESL level 3-4 class.
JOB SUMMARY:- Provide sequential ESL instruction based on Basic English Language and CASAS competencies for intermediate ESL learners
- Monitor student level changes and test schedules; refer students to post-testing as needed
- Provide GED instruction to students in the jail
- Provide employability skills to students in the jail
- Provide ABE instruction: reading, writing and math to students in the jail
Required Skills:Prior successful experience in urban, multicultural education desirable.
Demonstrates continued professional development through course work, research, peer collaboration, and/or job-embedded staff development.
Working knowledge of the subject matter, classroom management techniques, current researched best practices and strategies, as well as students' learning styles and needs, both academic and affective.
