Who We Are The Department of Oceanography in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M University (TAMU) is part of an alliance of Ocean Sciences at Texas A&M that spans the Marine Biology and Marine Sciences Departments at TAMU Galveston, Geochemical and Environmental Research Group. What We Want The Laboratory Coordinator I in the Fitzsimmons Chemical Oceanography Group within the Department of Oceanography at Texas A&M University will be responsible for performing a variety of technical duties involved in the operation and maintenance of the laboratory. This will involve inventorying, organizing, and maintaining the inventory of trace metal samples and supplies. It will also involve acid washing vials, bottles, and supplies for chemical analyses, and the packing and unpacking from research expeditions, including proper labeling of samples cases. The position can progress into independent chemical analyses, with training, after original organizational duties are fulfilled and trace metal clean techniques are absorbed. What You Need to Know Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience. Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field or equivalent combination of education and experience 1-year of experience in a geoscience-related field Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong organizational skills Experience with programming Ability to follow directions and written protocols The ability to cultivate and maintain professional working relationships with venders, coworkers, and supervisory staff Ability to lift or move heavy objects Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in a geoscience field Experience working in a quantitative geochemistry laboratory Responsibilities: Laboratory organization: Maintains inventory of laboratory supplies and samples in the laboratory. Preparing supplies for chemical analyses: Performs the acid washing vials, bottles, and supplies for chemical analysis. Assisting with quantitative chemical analyses and data interpretation: With training, assists lab personnel with chemical analyses and helps with quantitative data workup and plotting of data.
