City of Lewisville is Hiring a 911 Public Safety Call Taker (Part-Time) Near Lewisville, TX

Operates telephone and computer equipment to receive and enter information related to incoming 911 and administrative calls. Maintains logs and records of all activity, as required. Provides support information to police officers, fire units, the general public and other public safety agencies, as required.
  • Answers telephone requests for service. Assesses the nature of the request; enters the request into the computer aided dispatch system.
  • Operates automated data systems to retrieve information from local, state and federal data centers.
  • Maintains logs and records all requests for service as required for assigned area of responsibility.
  • Maintains and updates logs and other information such as street index, motor vehicle repossession log, emergency resource files, etc., as required for assigned area of responsibility.
  • Monitors building security systems, panic, and fire alarms.
  • Request additional resources and mutual aid from other agencies, cities, sources, etc., as needed.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience
  • Previous 9-1-1 emergency dispatch experience in a 9-1-1 call center.
  • Experience in a position with public contact requiring some type of decision-making and problem solving under stressful and non-stressful conditions required.
  • Any combination of related, education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.

  • Ability to speak clearly and understand telephone transmissions.
  • Ability to react quickly, calmly, and with good judgment in emergency situations.
  • Ability to coordinate a number of activities at the same time under intense stress.
  • Ability to read and interpret color data displays on terminal screens and printouts.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts as assigned, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Skills
  • Skill in use of personal computer including Microsoft Office, Open Office or similar word processing programs, e-mail and the internet.
Special Requirements:
  • Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test and hearing test.
  • Must complete training requirements for a telecommunicator as required by TCOLE (Sec. 6, Ch. 546, Art. 4413 (29aa), Vernon’s TX Civil Statues) within one year of hire date.
  • Must complete Emergency Medical Dispatcher Certification within one year from hire date.
  • Must submit to and pass pre-employment testing including CritiCall test.
  • Must submit to and pass background checks including fingerprint check, polygraph and psychological examination.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be a US Citizen as required by TCOLE.
