Description:
This recruitment is for one (1) full-time, permanent, Parks Planner 4 position for Parks Development located in Tumwater, Washington. Working hours are generally Monday- Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm with the option to telework. This position may require you to travel as needed to accomplish assignments.

About the position:
This position reports to a professional engineer (Environmental Engineer 5) in support of the Facilities Scoping Team and Capital Development programs. This position provides planning and project administration for the Scoping Unit including master planning, land acquisition, capital improvements, public participation, resource management, general park operation issues, and grant applications and implementation. Additionally, the position actively facilitates, participates, and contributes to: Capital Improvement Plan and Scoping Team efforts, Facilities and Capital Program team-building, and effective communication across the various divisions of the agency.
This position is eligible to telework but is frequently required to report on-site to meet business needs. The default assigned work location of all Parks positions – both on-site and telework eligible positions – is within the State of Washington. Frequency of onsite work will vary based on business and operational needs. Parks may choose, but are not required, to support out-of-state telework on a case-by-case basis.

Duties

Some of what you will do:

  • Participate in the design of all viable park improvements.
  • Administer, support, and approve the preparation and development of plans and reports for new and existing parks.
  • Serve as the Facilities Program Planner for all proposed visible improvements including signage, park, and community-based improvements.
  • Provide non-capital planning functions, including assisting Operations on non-capital projects.
  • Prepare and submit grant applications or programs from several funding sources as assigned.
  • Lead or assist with public meetings or hearings.
  • Manage capital projects. Administer and manage Architect/Engineering (A/E) contracts, Personal Service Contracts, Emergency Contracts, Interagency Agreements, and Public Works Contracts.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:
Qualified candidates will meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a majority of course studies in landscape architecture, park resource planning, land use planning or other major that would be considered an equivalent field of study AND four (4) years of experience in park and recreational facility design, landscape design, plan development, and public testimony/facilitation AND a valid driver’s license.
A master’s degree may substitute for two (2) years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Registration as a Landscape Architect in the state of Washington
  • Knowledge of and experience with Low Impact Development
  • LEED AP accredited
  • Knowledge of and experience with design and rendering software (AutoCAD, Sketchup, Shaderlight, Rhino, and/or Adobe Creative Suite)
