We currently seek full-time Grant Writers to join our Development team. The Grant Writer plays a crucial role in securing funding for the organization by developing compelling grant proposals and applications. This position involves researching funding opportunities, collaborating with program and finance teams, and effectively communicating the organization's mission and initiatives to potential donors. The Grant Writer will be responsible for managing the end-to-end grant application process, ensuring timely submissions, and maintaining positive relationships with funding sources.

This position has a hybrid schedule, however this can change with or without notice.

Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000 annually

Essential Duties:

  • Identify and research potential new government and foundation funders through regular prospect research, making use of resources such as Candid’s Foundation Directory and industry newsletters
  • Circulate summaries of funding opportunities to executive, program, fiscal, and data staff, and ensure decisions are made and projects move forward in a timely manner to meet proposal deadlines
  • Write new or adapt existing letters of inquiry and proposals in accordance with the specific interests of institutional funders
  • Revise, edit, and/or proofread grant proposals prepared by other staff
  • Manage the full-cycle application process for assigned government and foundation proposals, including by leading program design conversations to align programmatic ideas with funding opportunities; setting internal deadlines to meet application due dates; delegating work; and collaborating with internal staff to prepare and submit proposal narratives and supplementary components (logic models, staff CVs, etc.)
  • Use Salesforce to track due dates for proposals, reports, and meetings with funders to ensure timely response to funding opportunities and accountability to current funders
  • Participate in regular inter-departmental meetings and correspondence, including by collaborating with executive and senior leadership, program directors, budget staff, and data staff to track fundraising needs and goals, set program deliverables, apply for funding, and monitor the implementation of funded programs
  • Assist in generating financial information, including budgets and financial reports, for government and foundation proposals and reports, in collaboration with executive, program, and grants management staff
  • Maintain relationships with current and potential foundation and government funders by drafting reports, correspondence, and other written materials, and by participating in meetings and/or phone conversations with funders
  • Attend relevant training to ensure ongoing professional development and awareness of trends in the fields that Osborne’s work addresses
  • Stay abreast of philanthropic trends and the government and foundation grantmaking priorities of current and potential Osborne funders
  • Conduct program-related research from diverse and relevant sources to support proposal positioning and institutional fundraising strategies
  • Assist in developing and implementing the agency’s foundation and government fundraising strategy, including by strategizing how to meet annual institutional fundraising goals
  • Occasionally required to work irregular hours and to travel locally
  • While this is a hybrid role, in-person attendance is sometimes required to collaborate with co-workers
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Human Services, Communications, English, Sociology, or another relevant field; in lieu of degree an additional two years experience with nonprofit grant writing.
  • 2-4 years or more of proven experience in grant writing and grant management, preferably in a non-profit or similar setting.
  • Experience crafting clear and compelling narratives for diverse audiences.

  • The ability to work independently, take initiative, be persistent, and maintain excellent follow through.
  • Comfort working closely with executive staff, including through writing and editing processes required for grant applications.
  • Impeccable interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain strong relationships with Osborne staff and external stakeholders.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, flexibility, and comfort working under deadlines on a steady volume of projects.
  • Strong project management skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Agility and endurance to navigate a large, complex organization.
  • The ability to function as a respected representative of the organization, particularly in interactions with funders.
  • Knowledge of the evolving philanthropic landscape, specifically as it relates to foundation and government (NYC, NYS, and federal) institutional funding and giving.
