Saint Marys Hall is Hiring a School Nurse Near San Antonio, TX

Summary: The Registered Nurse provides nursing and educational services to advance the well-being, academic success, and health of students. Provides preventive health services to facilitate the student?s optimal physical, mental, emotional, and social growth and development. Supports the education process by working to assure the health of Pre-K-12 students and our summer camp program.
Qualifications:
? Valid registered nurse license to practice nursing in the State of Texas (RN required).
? A bachelor?s degree in nursing.
? Currently Certified in CPR and AED use.
? Certified Instructor in CPR/AED/First Aid and Stop the Bleed (or obtain in the first 6 months).
? Certified Vision and Hearing, Scoliosis screening (or obtained in the first 6 months).
? Minimum of two (2) years experience in school nursing.
? Minimum of two (2) years experience in community health, emergency, mental health, or pediatric nursing preferred.
? Proficient with verbal and written communication skills
? Demonstrated ability to assess situations and act quickly.
? Proficiency in use of Excel and electronic health records.
Job Description:
? Communicate with students, parents, faculty, and staff to ensure a healthy school environment and assist in meeting the health needs of the general school population, as well as those of specific students with identified health needs.
? Provide and facilitate first aid and emergency treatments which fall within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act as required for students/staff/visitors as the need arises during the school year.
? Assist in initiation and maintenance of electronic student health records, including but not limited to medication administration records, individual student treatment records, student health action plans.
? Assist in the facilitation and completion of state required screening programs such as Vision and Hearing screenings, Scoliosis screenings and any others mandated by the state.
? Assist with maintaining state immunization requirements.
? Assist with the regular checking and maintenance of all AED equipment, First Aid Equipment as assigned by the School Health Services Coordinator.
? Assist in the education of faculty and staff on administration of Epi-pens for students as needed related to Life Threatening Allergy Action Plans.
? Assist in the education of faculty and staff on the management of students who have identified health concerns such as seizures, diabetes and/or asthma as needed.
? Serve as a liaison between school personnel, the family and health care professionals as needed to ensure proper referral and follow up occurs for students.
? Assist in the education of unlicensed personnel as designated by Division Head or Head of School as requested by the School Health Services Coordinator.
? Assist with CPR scheduling/planning/training to faculty/staff and students.
? Field Trip preparation/planning and education to faculty/staff
? Diabetic monitoring, following up and communication with family, faculty/staff.
o Assist in creating an annual Individualized Health Plan and meeting with family annually to discuss Diabetic Medical Management Plan
? Perform and document weekly controlled medication count with another staff nurse.
? Promote Health Center Policy based on current practice guidelines.
? Assist with planning and staffing of on-campus sports physical clinic.
? Carry out duties related to the health and safety of students as assigned by the School Health Services Coordinator.
? Collaborate with SAGE Dinning Hall regarding food allergies.
? Manage and update Magnus Health student medical record.
? Supports and collaborates with the Athletic Trainer and counselors as needed.
? Serves as a resource person to the school staff members in health instruction.
? Assist with covering 2-3 weeks in the health office during summer camp.
? Maintain HIPAA compliance on all personnel and student information.
? Abide by all Saint Mary?s Hall policies and procedures.
? Attend staff meetings, parent meetings, and any special events and/or meeting(s) requested by the Administration.
? Seek and attend professional development to enhance School Nurse practices and improvement of the Health Office.
Demonstrated Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of:
? Principles and practices underlying professional nursing and school health practices.
? Current trends in nursing and of literature in the fields of school health.
? State and local laws relating to health and social issues.
? Ability to maintain a clean, orderly, and organized environment.
Physical Requirement and Work Environment
? Work in a fast-paced environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
? Must be able to teach, instruct, and communicate with students, parents, coworkers, visitors, and other professionals in the English language.
? Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment.
? Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
? Work could vary between inside and outside environments.
