Primary Purpose:

The role and function of the Workplace and Career Coordinator is to assist with the development and implementation of the comprehensive industry-engagement plan. This position will work with students to develop interest in the career programs offered on campus. This includes work-based learning through Practicums and Career Preparation job placement, which allows students to blend classroom learning with practical work experience. Some day-to-day responsibilities include communicating with employers through phone, email, and in person about Texans Can Academies’ Workplace Learning programs. They will help students transition from high school to direct employment.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor degree, or equivalent experience.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of principles of experiential learning and career counseling
  • Knowledge of job market salaries and occupational trends
  • Knowledge of workforce demographics and analysis, career trends
  • Strong communication skills

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Work directly with campus-based Director of Workforce and Community Engagement to ensure consistent industry-engagement activities throughout the campus; work collaboratively to ensure District policy is adhered to in the development of industry partnership engagement activities, and develop best practices for school to engage industry partners and students in meaningful work-based learning experiences inclusive of both activities for student instruction and teacher professional development and mentoring and externships.
  • Serve as a liaison between students, faculty and employers regarding administrative and operating requirements for the work-based learning program.
  • Assist with the development of work practices and systems that enable sustainable engagement between Career and Technical Education (CTE) team, industry partners, and campus advisory board.
  • Assist with the development of Workplace Learning curricula and project-based learning activities.
  • Coordinate and implement programs with industry partners and campus to develop project-based learning activities which incorporate Workplace Learning skills and core competencies.
  • Oversee the campus Workplace Learning database system to track and monitor industry partnership engagement activities; and provide training and support to school staff to ensure meaningful work-based learning experiences are implemented.
  • Assist with career development of students in Workplace pathways by assisting with developing extended learning opportunities focused on employability skills.
  • Assist campus Workplace Learning coordinators by identifying, Internships, Job Shadowing, Service Learning, and other Workplace Learning programs offered that relate to opportunities for students enrolled in Workplace programs.
  • Maintain a database of Workplace Learning partners providing career opportunities and first-in-line job interviews for Workplace Learning students.
  • Effectively manage data collection, execute metrics, and compile reports; create and implement concise and timely reporting systems for both internal and external stakeholders; compile statistical reports on Workplace Learning activities and business partner engagement activities.
  • Build strong relationships, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate and build strong relationships with principals, school staff, and administrative personnel around Workplace Learning guidelines and expectations and conduct campus training and in the business and community at large.
  • Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.

Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions. Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer. Some lifting and carrying of objects around 25 pounds may be required on an infrequent basis.
