Position Summary:

The External Relations Coordinator will be responsible for the various volunteer efforts that further the objectives and goals of the agency and sharing our impact via social media management. They will work closely with all departments to match programmatic and client needs with volunteer interests and resources including the client mentor program. The External Relations Coordinator will recruit, train, track, manage, and thank volunteers.

Essential Functions:

  • External Relations Coordinators have the vision and passion to support the development, implementation, and growth of all aspects of the Volunteer Program.
  • Maintain and manage a robust social media presence.
  • Conduct continuous evaluation of the programs and services by the volunteers and implement corrections as necessary.
  • Maintain up-to-date database and use this information to monitor and evaluate activities, producing reports for funders and stakeholders upon request.
  • Develop and implement effective strategies to recruit volunteers with the skills that match the interests of the agency through outreach to individuals, community-based organizations and groups, colleges/universities, and corporations as needed.
  • Research and draft volunteer policies and procedures including risk assessments.
  • Train staff in potential and procedures of volunteer program, ensuring they are able to work effectively with volunteers as necessary.
  • Remain up-to-date on latest trends and best practices in volunteer management, mentorship programs, and social media trends.
  • Think creatively about new and effective ways to attract, engage, and deploy volunteers.

Provide the following services for volunteers of the agency:

  • Review applications, check references, and interview potential volunteers
  • Assess interests/skills of volunteers and match with appropriate activities
  • Supervise volunteers and check in routinely to ensure volunteers have the tools to succeed and have a rewarding experience
  • Design formal and informal activities to recognize the contributions of volunteers
  • Train volunteers thoroughly on their roles and responsibilities
  • Coordinate teams of volunteers on large-scale actions or “volunteer” or “service” days
  • Share information about upcoming opportunities, actions, and events
  • Organize profile raising events to attract new volunteers and raise funding.
  • Ensure safety and security of Peaceprints clients, staff and volunteers. Ensure that all red flag incidents or concerns related to volunteers are reported to the appropriate authority as well as the Development Director immediately and that the incident or concern is properly documented.
  • Ensure that all volunteers and clients are treated fairly and with respect and that Peaceprints maintains an environment that is inclusive and safe for all people.
  • Build partnerships with and serve as liaison to other community programs, employers, individuals, collaborative groups and agencies to boost the number of volunteers and Peaceprints image in the community.
  • Actively engage and energize staff members, volunteers, board members, committees, partnering organizations, donors, and grant funders.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of a B.A. degree, CVA credential preferred.
  • At least two years’ experience in volunteer management, fundraising, human resource management, project management, social media, customer relations, or other relevant field.
  • Passion for social justice, legal advocacy, prisoner reentry, and/or Fair Chance Hiring.
  • Experience volunteering with other agencies.

  • Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation.
  • Ability to think strategically about volunteer linkages to Development.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; the ideal candidate will be a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to planning.
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
  • Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed.
  • Excellent organization, time management skills, and the ability to think creatively.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and vehicle to use in performance of job. Position requires some travel within the City of Buffalo.

  • Work time may be evenly split between office settings, at Peaceprints properties or outside meetings. Limited local travel is required. Light physical effort in an office environment

  • Maintain a high energy level, comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities
  • Regularly required to speak clearly and hear the spoken word as well
  • Regularly required to read and write clearly
