Seeking a Part-Time Assessment Specialist for the Juvenile Assessment Center's Law Enforcement Program

The Juvenile Assessment Center (JAC) Law Enforcement Program (LEP) is seeking a flexible and responsible professional to join a dynamic team serving at-risk, high need, and delinquent youth.

The Juvenile Assessment Center (JAC) is a nonprofit organization contributing to the safety of youth, families, and the communities of Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert and Lincoln counties through immediate screening, early intervention, comprehensive assessment and improved access to appropriate services. The JAC Law Enforcement Program has two offices with the main office being located inside of the Family Resource Pavilion (FRP). The second LEP office is located inside of Marvin W. Foote Youth Services Center, which is the Division of Youth Services Detention Center for the 18th Judicial District.

It is the mission of the Juvenile Assessment Center to provide a coordinated, multi-agency, single entry site, which contributes to the safety of youth, families, and the community through early intervention, comprehensive assessment and improved access to appropriate services.

RESPONSIBILITIES

JAC Part-Time Assessment Specialist obligations include data entry, fingerprinting and mug shots, screening, and assessment of youth transported by law enforcement or referred by community partners. Specialists identify areas of risk and need, recommend post-assessment services, and conduct follow-up communication. Specialists will prepare detailed assessment reports to District, County, and Municipal courts within a given deadline when applicable. These reports to the court will be a summary of the information obtained during a youth’s intake; including screening and assessment results as well as recommendations for the officers of the court and other professionals.

Specialists may also facilitate crisis intervention for youth and families prior to the release of youth back to the community. In some cases, Specialists will coordinate with collaborating agencies for an alternative release from the program.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Bilingual candidates fluent in both English and Spanish highly preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; including above average oral and written communication skills
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care principles/practices preferred
  • Knowledge on the developmental phases of child and youth preferred
  • Knowledge and training of the motivational interviewing techniques
  • Experience working in the juvenile justice system and/or related field preferred
  • Experience in working overnight shifts preferred
  • Flexibility to attend monthly meetings and tranings as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a preferred degree in criminal justice, social work, psychology, sociology, human development, or a closely related field. (If graduating in May 2022 please know we would still be interested in meeting with you and would be willing and able to hire you on to begin training. Once graduated you would be able to move into your position).
  • Must pass a Background check. Required background check includes a review with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Central Registry of Child Protection (Trails).
  • Bilingual candidates must be fluent in both Spanish and English and have demonstrated ability to translate written documents from English to Spanish and Spanish to
  • Flexibility in work schedule may be required to work holidays since the LEP is open 24/7/365.

HOURS OF WORK & COMPENSATION

  • Overnight Shifts are from 10 PM - 6 AM (work days/salary are non-negotiable).
  • All other shifts are anytime inbetween the hours of 6 AM - 10 PM
  • $18.00 an hour when working 6 AM-10 PM
  • $19.26 an hour when working 10 PM - 6 AM (Overnight differential is paid for hours 10pm-6am)
