Faculty Student Association at SBU is Hiring a Per Diem Food Service Supervisor - LISVH Near Stony Brook, NY

THIS POSITION IS PER DIEM/AS NEEDED.

As part of a management team, the Food Service Supervisor supervises assigned kitchen staff and ensures tasks are completed by following state and federal regulations and facility policies and procedures. In addition, the Food Service Supervisor checks the tray line for each meal served for accuracy. Weekend and holiday shifts are required. This position is considered “Essential.” The incumbent must report to work regardless of extreme weather or other conditions.

Required Qualifications:

· High School Diploma

· 2 years of experience in a leadership role in the kitchen (supervisor or manager), with related healthcare experience.

· 2 years of experience in either long-term or acute care facility

· Computer Literate

· Knowledge of federal, state, and local codes and regulations pertaining to food service

· Ability to read, write, and speak English and follow written and verbal instructions.

· Ability to meet acceptable background check standards.

· Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as appropriate

· Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

· 120-Hour Dietary Managers Course

· AA or BS in Hospitality or Health Care Management

Position Responsibilities:

· Opens and closes the department according to proper procedures.

· Meets with a.m. and p.m. supervisors to discuss and resolve any issues and change.

· Finds coverage for hourly staff as needed and adjust schedule as necessary.

· Supervises, evaluates, and disciplines employees.

· Ensure call downs are brought up to units within 15 minutes.

· Review supervisor logs daily for staffing concerns, equipment/production problems, and work assignment sheets

· Enforce departmental sanitation policy and procedures. Ensure sanitation standards, safety, and infection control procedures as required by the various regulatory agencies.

· Check and document sanitation and cleanliness of all work areas, including pantries, in accordance with government standards.

· Enforce timeliness and accuracy of tray services according to departmental policy.

· Ensure proper food handling procedures are being followed as outlined in HAACP

· Notify appropriate departments of malfunctioning equipment immediately upon observance.

· All other duties as assigned by Director of Food Services at LISVH.

Schedule: Please note that this position is Per Diem. Various Hours and Various Shifts.

· Support the Veterans Home and Association in maintaining a safe working environment by following departmental safety procedures.

· Exposure to chemicals, dust, moving objects, loud noise, slippery services, wetness, potential electrical hazard, potential burns, may require special clothing/safety equipment. Occasionally exposed to blood, body tissue/fluids, and hazardous materials. Rarely exposed to high elevation or radiation.

· Must be able to see objects closely, as in reading, on a continuous basis. Able to see objects far away continuously. Able to discriminate color continuously. Able to perceive depth, continuously.

· Must be able to see hear normal sounds with some background noise, as in answering a telephone, on a continuous basis. Able to distinguish sounds, as voice patterns, on a continuous basis.

· Able to push/pull objects using maximum effort continuously. Able to perform motor skills such as bending, twisting, turning, turning, kneeling, climbing stairs, reaching out/up, wrist turn/torque, grasping, pinching, finger manipulation, feeling perception, fast response, continuously, and occasionally squatting.

· Must be able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination on a continuous basis; able to perform body coordination of the upper and lower body on a continuous basis;

· Must be able to give and receive verbal communications on a continuous basis. Able to read written communications on a continuous basis. Able to compose written communication occasionally.

· Must be able to remain on feet up to 8 hours consecutively, up to 8 hours per day.

· Must be able to concentrate on fine detail with some interruptions on a continuous basis.

· Must be able to remember multiple tasks/assignments given to self and others during the course of the day on a continuous basis; able to remember multiple tasks/assignments given to self and others during the course of the day on a continuous basis; able to remember multiple tasks/assignments given to self and others over long periods of time on a frequent basis.

· Be familiar with and strive to follow applicable federal, state, or local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement, and standards.

· Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
